warrior or 400EX

I WOULD NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT GETTING A WARRIOR. THE 400EX IS IN A WHOLE DIFFERANT LEAGUE. THE 400EX IS THE BEST ALL AROUND BIKE OUT THERE RIGHT NOW. THE DS 650 MIGHT BE FASTER BUT NOT BETTER HANDLING. IF I WERE YOU I WOULD WAIT FOR THE NEW YAMAHA TO COME OUT. IT IS GOIN TO BE A AWESOME BIKE AND WILL BLOW EVERYONE ELSE AWAY..... GUARENTEED!!!!

I'll start by saying the Warrior is a great proven bike. Has ample power and speed, plus reverse. However, it can't begin to compare to the 400EX. My friend rides a 2000 Warrior and it doesn't come close to my 400EX going forward. Running down the road, I can run off and leave him, in a drag race I can smoke him off of the start. If you are planning on Racing, get the 400EX, if you are just interested in riding along trails and NEED reverse, get the warrior.
Bottom Line
Warrier= great sport bike
400EX= High Performance
The bikes are different, they don't deserve to be compared to each other.

Most certainly go for the Warrior. Pick up a nice used one, say a '95-'97 for about $3000-3500. That leaves you about $2000-2500 to build it, first with new shocks & tires, then with major motor mods. Besides, what kind of dirt bikes are you trying to keep up with?? If it's a YZ400/426 it could be a lost cause.

It sounds like the EX is your choice. Like you, I ride with mostly dirtbikes. I have no trouble keeping up with, and actually outrunning them in many cases (especially in the turns). About the only thing they have on me is straight line acceleration, and suspension for the really big air, but not many of the bike riders go for bigger air than I do, and I can double everything they do (& more in most cases), where we ride.
Even a highly modified Warrior will not approach the all around performance level of a stock EX. They just were not designed with high performance in mind. It would require a complete chassis change (control arms, swingarm, & frame) + engine mods + aftermarket suspension to make it competitive which will cost much, much more than a stock EX. Then you end up with a tempramental race bike that's maybe competitive with the stock or mildly modified Honda's (400EX's & 250R's). Obviously not a smart idea....
The Warrior is a nice trail machine that is comparable to a 300EX, just a little bigger.

So your saying instead of buying a new 400EX, pick up a used Warrior that you have no idea what it's been through. Throw $2000-$3000 in mods into it to bring it up to compete with a stock 400EX. So now you've got a 3yr old bike that will most likely be tepermental with those kind of mods when you could of had a new stock bike with a warranty
and great reliability. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm??

That blinking line back there? It reminds me of a view I had of my buddy. I took a sharp corner on my 400ex, and looked back. I saw him flying through the trees ( he was at that point off of his Warrior), and the sight I had of him kind of blinked...behind a tree...open spot...tree...open spot...tree. He tried the same corner at the same speed and didn't quite make it. We got the meatwagon and hauled him out of the woods.
