z400 jetting
#1
ok heres what i've got:
'03 Suzuki Z400
Trinity Stage IV Exhaust System
Airbox removed
What is the proper jetting for this set up? Do the jets that came with the Exhaust work w/o the airbox lid?
Also, when i get it all dialed in, can i expect some dramatic changes?
Please any suggestions or reviews would be greatly appreciated

jt, i tell the yamaha boys the same thing: contact the pipe manufacturer for jetting questions, then fine tune it from there, especially if they sent you the jets with the pipe. just leave a message on their website.

I have a CT pipe also and my KFX did not like the recommended jetting from CT
Main jet = 165
Pilot = 33.5
needle in lean position and air screw 3 turns out , no lid , no snorkle.
With the CT recommended jetting , my quad ran like shiat , no mid or full throttle , it would pop and sputter while blasters passed me.
With the new set up 416 EX's are suckin roost .
Every quad is different especially the Z's , some are easy to jet like the ones made on Wednesdays and some are a pain to get dialed in
I think most of them were built on Mondays and Fridays.

The main concensus of Z400 pipes call for a 155 main jet. That is not saying it will be perfect, but a good start. Remember that these quads do not solely run off one jet, but all things such as needle, pilot, and air/fuel mixture screw need to be tuned for maximum performance.
The Dynojet needle seems to be very good, so I would recommend on of those on the 3rd clip. 3 turns out on the mixture screw, and the pilot is a case by case situation, and will need to be fiddled with, along with the main.
This will give you a good place to start, and then you will have to go by the seat of your pants and plug checks to see where you're at and go from there. And yes, if you get it tuned correctly, you will feel a great improvement.

Instead of emails and forum messages, go outside and try different jets. You are the only one that can determine if it is right or not. People in the forum can only guess.

I have the same bike and same pipe, I used the jets and adjustments Trinity gave me and they work great!! Just do what it says in the instructions they gave you. Also, did they perfect the logo on the side of the pipe? I mean, I had mine sent back to them 4 times because at first the logo was facing straight up and each time I sent it back it would get a little closer to the outside.

get on the phone and order yourself a Stage 2 dyno jet kit.
The stage 2 if for modified air box, aftermarket filter, and a good aftermarket pipe. It will cost you like 40 dollars.
They give you a good suggestion to start with based on elevation, then they give you more jets up or down.
You also get a needle and new clips.
Its well worth it, i finally bought one for me 330, i went 1 jet up from the suggested size and boom, she ran like a dream! I sure do miss her sometimes!
