What year are you thinking of getting. The 85/86 are good bikes, but the 87-92 have a lot more potential I own a 86 and really enjoy it.

NICE! GET ONE NOW!
Your friends will be trying to catch you!

Look for a 1988 - 1992 as they have the newer motor. 87's had a loner motor(1year run) and 85-86 are good but thier trannys are less reliable than I thought.

Check the frame and especially the swingarm as they always crack!!~
On the 87-92 check the rear bearing carrier area and make sure the adjusters are intact and looking good. Look to spend 1500 to 2200 for a nicer one.
Good Luck and let us know how you make out.

Tough call. I am die hard Suzuki fan, but if you can get a banshee for $2000, you may want that. But the 92 is about the best you are gonna get in the suzukis. It really depends on you riding habits. Trails and casual riding are definately Suzukis strong points. Even running in sand dunes. But if you want to do some mods and drag race a little. a banshee is good for that.

LT250Rs offer big bang for the buck. Very high power-to-weight ratio at only 350 lbs. I get almost all my parts on Ebay, no problem with availability. Not as legendary as TRXs, but back in the day pros raced LTs and beat TRXs, so the LT is a solid machine. You can mod the thing until your credit card says uncle, and it just keeps getting faster. Lots of folks have lots of experience modding these, as you can gather from this thread. I bought my '89 in the classifieds here for a grand, it needed an axle carrier bolt, new seat cover, and had a cracked water jacket outside the cylinder where the cooling system froze. But the plastic was intact, it had original tires, frame was sound, it shifted well, suspension was good. Now I've put another $500 into repairs (top end with Wiseco, carrier bolt, , air box repair and Uni, etc.) and FMF pipe/silencer. It rips, and is more exciting to ride than ANY current Japanese sport quad. I can vouch for the strength of the '88 and up engine with power valve. You could buy 3 of these and set them up for dunes, drags and trails for the price of a Raptor or Suzuki 700. He who dies with the most toys wins!
