Default Buy a z400?

My brother in law is looking for a quad for his woman. She is a little gun shy about the raptor(speed torque). How is the 400? Are there any problems with it(01 raptor tranny) that one should be aware of?

i'd say that bottom to upper-mid range the 400 can do the same things the raptor can. with it's bigger displacement though, it tops out a little better, but not much...the 400 corners much better thanks to its lower stance..the raptor feels sort of tippy...there both good machines and all good machines have their bugs to get worked out...the 400 is no exception..i have a 400 and absolutely love it...you put a pipe and proflo on it and you'll take a raptor

That is some of the stuff I've heard, we are trying to get her a real dependable ride, I am sure she won't mod it a bunch, I love the king quads so I thought I'd ask about the z. It is true that they all have bugs, but some years or production lines have problems so that is what I was talking about.

I bought my Z400 in may, I asked the salesman about the extended warranty he said it would be a waste of money cause I won't use it. The only problem the Z400s had was weakness in the frame, but apparently Suzuki has already corrected this problem in the current production run, so if you buy one now there should be nothing to worry about.

go for a used 400ex. With the way ATV's depreciate you should get a good price on a reliable ATV. (Not saying that Z's are going to be reliable, but the EX has been around for a while)

I love my Z, very smooth power delivery, there is also the Z250 if she is begining to ride.

Go with the Z. I bought one for my wife approx. 3 months ago. She absolutely loves it and handles it very well. This is her first year riding. She has tackled Hatfield and McCoy and Wayne Nat'l in Ohio. We will be tackling Silver Lake in the next couple of weeks. To sum it up. Anyone from first year rider to experienced rider will absolutely love the Z in all areas of riding. (It's not the greatest in thick mud)!!!
