Default synthetic oil in my 'Zilla?,

Hey guys, just looking for info on synthetic oil.
my bro just bought a new WR450 2 wheeler *cant convince him 4 is better ). anyway, he wants me to run mobil 1 synthetic oil in my 500. whats the scoop? i normally change the oil after every weekend ride, and it is full of metal. will going to synthetic help? it doesnt seem to have any abnormal noises or anything, so am unsure as to where metal is coming from. i run chevron delo 400 15w-40 year round. don't ride to much in winter tho.
i have been reading other posts on synthetic oil, but none specific to the 500. i dont want to have any trouble with the clutch slipping. i am going to ride the oregon dunes in 2 weeks and its a long drive to get there.
please post all suggestions/comments as possible. please, if you say you won't run something say why. i am trying to learn.
thanks

I have raced MX on all kinds of quads, and always use Maxima 80w tranny lude in the tranmission. Never had a problem.

Maxima is at the top of the food chain as far as lubricants go. Personally, I run automatic transmission fluid in all of my 2 strokes....DEXRON 3.

A synthetic gear oil is a good thing, as long as it's formulated for what your using it for... Maxima is good stuff, personally I use Bell-Ray gear lube which is a full synthetic... I would NOT use a synthetic motor oil in a gear box... Standard motor oil works fine, as the machine was intended to use, but the Mobil 1's and equivalent will not support good clutch engagement.
This is the voice of experience on this one... I tried it, my clutch slipped... granted I was working it hard in the sand, but none-the-less...
The synthetic oils don't need changed as often, and seem to be easier on clutch wear than conventional oils... I'm glad to hear you've been changing your oil frequently, as that's important.

Synthetic pre-mix is also a good idea... Amsoil Series 2000 is what I use...Very happy with the results.

Good luck!

I have used syn. in my 500 and ruined every seal in there, even the bastard one behind the prim. gear. Seals that are not made for it will absorb the oil than go for a sh*t. My local fluid expert told me I was lucky not to have screwed up my clutch. You have been warned

i read that the seals shouldnt be a problem (cant remember where i read it tho) my engine was totaly rebuilt 3 yrs ago. (top and botom)

also nobody has replyied to the metal in the oil. any one know if this comes from the clutch plates? my buddy has a 90 it is the same way. his is making a funny noise tho, and it was rebuilt one year ago
just kind of concerns you

Sounds like its most likely the clutch or clutch basket.
