Once upon a time, in 1985, ATVing was changed forever...

What can you say about the Suzuki Quad Racer...us aggressive riders, we should have more respect for the Quad Racer than anything. It pretty much started us and our world. I think they kick <>> both by the way they ride, and the way they look. Not to mention their history. I'd like to talk with other ATVers about legends like this. How many Quad Racer riders are out there? How well does it work for a XC machine? Maneuverable and fast through the trails? Has your Quad Racer been much of a "problem bike"? Thanks, any response is greatly appreciated.

I have been very happy with my 87 lt250r. It has had a minor coolant problem where it was leaking out of a weep hole underneath the engine but it was nothing major. Other than that it has run great. It is a somwhat large machine and it deosn't have reverse with can make a pain in small trails but in larger trails it has been great. It always has enough power in the trails and in straight aways it flies.

I have a 88 lt 250r and havn't had a problem yet. I also believe that the lt is the grandfather of quads, I also wonder how people say the Honda is the best, I repetedly wonder how this is true when they have a square tube frame and forward kickstart. And to top it off, the tecate and LT came with power valves. I myself think the Lt is the ultimate quad, but this is posibly because I wanted to be diferent.

As a former owner of both a LT250R and a TRX250R, this is my opinion. The Honda had better brakes and suspension. Both powerplants were modified, so I am not exactly sure how they compare stock. But the Suzuki had more low-end while the Honda had the mid-range and up dominated. I felt the ergos better suited me on the Honda, while the Suzuki felt more spaced out.

The round-tubing vs. square tubing arguement is an extremely weak arguement for comparison purposes. I won't get into the engineering and manufacturing aspects for the choice of each, but I will state that the frame tube shape, when designed properly, has little to no effect on the handling...

There were pros and cons with each machine, but I, along with most other riders out there, overall prefer the Honda TRX250R over the Suzuki LT250R.

I find it interesting that while honda was already making high performance 3 wheelers, suzuki went another direction. Rather than jumping on the 3 wheeler bandwagon, suzuki boldly added the 4th wheel and changed atv's forever. Remember that suzuki only made a few 3 wheelers, and none of them were very good.

I think the quadracer & quadsport both were very innovative designs which changed the atv industry forever.

good topic

i agree that all atvers should have much more respect for quadracers, just the fact alone that they started it all should be enough to keep us from bad talking them. although the honda has better handling and better brakes, the zuki has better power. i have found my 86 lt250r to do very well on the trails, i also would like to remind you guys, that it doesnt take much to get up and throw the rearend around and take off in the other direction, making up for the lack of reverse. i have found i can get off and throw it around faster than i can turn around with reverse equipped quads. i got it from a guy that had hit a telephone pole, and his brother changed it all onto a new frame, so i am still fixing stuff. i still dont have brakes, but i will soon. even without brakes it still flies down the trails. i am sure wiht brakes i could ride the trails alot faster too. we need to stick together, rather than tell yamaha/kawi/honda riders to go home, we should all be friends and get along we will need this togetherness to keep the sport alive. the enviromentalists are on us like ugly on an ape, so lets stick together and tell them to go home, not other atvers.

Exactly, you notice I started this subject, while my ride is actually a TRX250R? You know what? I LOVE 250 2-Strokes, and that's the bottom line. I hate all this crap where people seem like they only know about the new quads. The big bulky wide new quads. Give me a 250 2-stroke anyday over these big ***'...

I agree 250 2 stroke all the way. But if they did make a 4 stroke quad it should be like the 250 but 426 yamaha motor only not any of those big *** ones. also Gas Gas if they get moving and can get people to start buying ther 300 2 stroke that would rock.

my dad has a 87 zilla and it hauls bottom line. the only prob it leaks coolant a little by the water pump noting a new gasket won't fix trails he flat oout hauls down trails to yes it is WIDE but if U pay attention and watch out for tree's it is alright. I have a 86 trx250r and don't care what I ride really. wether it is my old YFM 225 with no brakes and hardly any fenders or my moded 250r it I could give a poop less. even though I have to admit the 250r is alittle nicer. 2 strokes 4 ever.
