Default I've narrowed my choice for 1st 4 wheeler down to two: AC 400 4x4 auto and Suzuki Eiger 400 4x4 auto

After starting out with a list of about 7 different 4 wheelers, I have narrowed my list down to a final 2. The Arctic Cat 400 4x4 automatic, and the Suzuki Eiger 400 4x4 automatic. The key features I wanted were: automatic tranny (obviously), full floor boards, hitch standard, power outlet, gauges, low range 4x4, and last but not least, a locking differential. I also needed to stay as close to $5000 as possible. That unfortunately eliminated a couple of great bikes right away, but oh well.

Now, my question for you all is, is there anything that you know of that should be a reason for me to pick one of these two over the other? I know which ever forum I post this in, I will hear that "this one is better than the other one because..." and that's totally understandable. That's why I'm also going to post this in the Arctic Cat forum as well. Someone that spends most of their time in one of these forums might not see this post and have a perfect example or piece of info that I'm looking for. Also, if any of you should happen to know a dealer within an hour or two from the north east Ohio area that may have a great price on either of these two bikes, could you fill me in please????

Thanks in advance for any input on this.

You're looking at two bikes in the same class that run with the exact same engine. The AC weighs 50 pounds more, so the Eiger will be just a little more trail friendly. If you're leaning more towards work, then the extra weight will be a plus. I'm also pretty sure that neither one of these has a locking front dif. - I know the Eiger does not.

I know that every time the mags do a shootout in this class, the Eiger wins - But some of the stats in the shootouts that determine a winner don't really mean much in the real world. Who really cares if one utility bike can beat another in a drag by 1/2 an ATV length?

Same class, same engine, same price.............Sometimes it just boils down to sitting on them and seeing which quad 'feels' right. Other than that, see which dealer will make the best deal.

Jaybee is right on. As far as speed goes in the 400 class the Outlander is the fastest the Eiger is 2nd Cat is last in all the tests. And the big thing a lot of times is $$$. And here the Eiger is about a $1000.00 cheaper, than the other two. $4395 - vs - $5499.00 Oh and Suzuki & cat have the same basic engine; Cams-carb- exhaust can be differant, One of the reasons Suzy is quicker. This is why I would Go Suzuki.

You're right. They don't have a locking front diff. I must have been smoking crack or something. Thanks for the input though. I think I'm leaning towards the Eiger.

The Cat is better suited for utility , and the Eiger is the jack of all trades. It might not be the best at this or that but it does everything well. And for the money it's a winner.

I’ve been working at a suzuki dealer for the past 10 years as a tech. and if it where me I would go with the Suzuki Vinson, Not sure if you may have checked this unit out or not but man I tell you what its one Bad *** ATV. It has all you where wanting, plus you can get a Diff kit for the front end witch will make it a fully locking front Diff, I know you where saying you wanted a 400, but after time you will wish you had that extra 100cc. Not only that but when you have seen one with a lift kit and 27" 589's tires on it, it looks Very! Impressive, not to mention the 13"-14” of ground clearance you'll have after you do all that to it. Oh and just so you know you could also get that front Diff locking kit for the Eiger also if you wanted, but I recommend the Vinson all the way! Hope you have lots of fun on witch ever one you get!

Busakiller-- That front locker your talking about is that from High Lifter?? Last I heard they didn't have one for Machines with the torque sensing front ends. I got a VInson 03 auto. And interested. How much $ and so on. Thanks for any info. Ya the Vinson is better than the Eiger but he said he was trying to be around $5000. They sell them here at one dealer for [ Vinson] $5399 and thats the cheapest around here. The other dealers here are asking $6500.

Yeah, I'd love to get the Vinson, but I really need to stay as close to $5000 as possible. I like the thought of having 500+ cc's of power, but that will probably have to wait til my second bike. You know, after I get too used to my first one and give that one to my girlfriend and then buy a new one for myself.

The Eiger isn't that far down on power. You should have no trouble keeping up on trails. The Eiger is as fast as the old Quadmaster 500.
