Eiger: Backfired LOUD... Now Runs Crappy
#11
I had the same problem you have with it being on choke for a very long time, although mine never backfired. I read a post on this forum a few months back about a pinched vent hose. I thought it was a lean condition for the idel circuit. I decided to buy the dyno-jet kit, a fuel filter, and a different fuel petcock. As I was installing this stuff I found the pinched hose and re-routed it and installed the kit ect... My eiger runs great, 32 deg F on sunday full choke for about 15 seconds half choke for 30 seconds no choke after 1 minute. Quad runs great and has a little more snap.

Definitely sounds like a lean condition. Make sure it is not the vent hose and then look at the carb. An air leak or something clogging up the jet or even a little water in the bowl could do it.

Thanks guys, ill check it out. I know its not water in the bowl.... ive tried diff. octanes of
fuel, and changed the fuel, so no water in the bowl for sure. I have not checked for
pinched hoses. I even adjusted the pilot air screw with no luck. Where exactly is the
hose you say may be pinched? Is it small, large, ..... front , back or on the side?

Hey there!
Both of my '03 Eigers also do this on slow down. One way that I have found to temporarily solve the problem is to pull the shifter up and hold it there so that the clutch is engaged. This way it doesn't happen. Could holding the shifter up hurt the engine?

ok well if it back firing like my frinds scrambler then it is runing rich. the sound u are hearing is the extr fule being buurned. but with my kodaic it was back firing adn it was runing lean so i guess back firing can be caused by both. I would check for a leak arround the header or arounfd the scilencer. and clean ur air filter. and if u have not fixed it yet then take it to your dealer.
