LT250R 87 or Newer, How to get the most power?
#1
I am new to the web site and I think it's cool. My picture's you see are of an 86 LT, which I have since sold because of the lack of power you are unable to get from the 85/86 year. So I just bought a 1987 LT to rebuild. My question is what is the best engine mods/engine work to get the best power out of the improved newer engines? Any suggestions would be helpful.

hey 10k if you want power scary as hell, my friend sayed he rode a lt 330r totally trick sayed that is that fastest thing his ever rode. and he owns a 310 atc250r. but if your not up to that (i wouldent be ) then a good pipe cool heads reeds air filter. wounld difenetly help in the power.

THe first thing to do is get a pipe and silencer if it doesmt already have one . I recommend the LRD , it is the most expensive but well worth the price. assumming the top is in good condition id then get my head shaved and or ported. You wont need a bigger carb until these things are done anyway and get a new filter with your new carb isnt a bad idea either. Dont settle for second best parts spend a little extra or do some research to fing the best size carb or intake for your bike. If you can spend some money on aluminum parts to make your vehicle a little lighter. , which is almost as good as horsepower.

When I rebuilt my wife's 91 model, I lightly ported it, shaved the head .015, and added a Lectron 36mm carb. What an unbelievable difference. It went from a so so quad to beating a stock Raptor about 2-3 lengths in a drag race. The porting can be whatever you want, and keeping the powervalve in good working shape will allow more radical porting. A cool head would be better than shaving the stock head. There is not a lot of meat on the stock unit. Making the quad lighter as said before will be easier on everything.
