when i was racing my cuzin with my 230 the quad started like pulling back n forward in 4th n 5th gear. In first second and third gear it was goin fine n i was ahead the when i switched to 4th it slowed down for couple seconds then took off slow.. my cuzin thinks i should get the carb rebilt beacuse i sat in a shed for 5 years with a full tank of gas.does anyone kno whats wrong with it n how i can fix it. Does anyone kno the top speed of a 230 quadsport and what else do i have to upgrade to beat my friends 300ex all i have now is a k&n air filter with the top of the box off to get more air flow.

I'd definately rebuild the carb. To hang with the Ex, I'd get a full pipe, cam, valve springs, and a rejet. www.vincescycle has some performance parts, and aftermarket carbs for them. Do your self a favor, and get a case saver ASAP, before your chain derails and smashes up the motor case. It is very common.

i would do the cam and spring thing and get a supertrapp 4in full exhuast. they are like $286.00 in dennis kirk. also regearing is the cheapest and first thing to do.

one thing that i did to rebuild my quadsport is to rebuild the engine and put a cobra pipe on it, i have i friend with a stock 300ex and i can blow the crap out of her. the rebuild made a very noticable differnece in torque and top end. it costed $750 and they rebuild the whole motor, valves cam and rods-everything!!!

I'd call a few local places that fix atv's and see what they think a full rebuild would cost. I think you may be able to beat $800. For $800, I'd expect a hot rod, a different cam, a custom valve grind, new oil pump, new top end, all bearings, and clutch plates. A rebuild won't cause a huge difference unless you motor is nearly wore out.
