Default matinence on the lt-250r

Hi,
My brother has decided to go with the lt-250r. We want to know what routine matinence it requires. Also, what oil and what ratio should the oil/gas mixture be? Thanks for the help.

For the mix I use a pint of Yamalube R in 5 gallons which is 40-1. For the transmission the manual says something like straight 30 weight auto oil but I find that to be kinda heavy and the clutch doestn't disengage that well till it's fairly warm, so I use 5-30. For opther maintenance I change the spark plug every year.

Thanks, for the help. We have a question, is it not smart to buy the 85 year of the lt250? Was that it's first year, did it have any problems? Thanks again.

The 85 and 86 was essentially the same. Just make sure there are no cracks in the swingarm or around the shock mounts. IF the bike is all stock, you will definately want to get a pipe and find a carb from an 86 lt250, because the 85 carb is a small 32mm while the 86 was a slightly gigger 34mm. Is is a quick easy swap.
In my 86, I run 32:1 Maxima 927. Works really good.
Make sure to keep the air filter clean.
Hey, where are you in So Cal. Do you go Glamis, or planning to go.
If you need any help, I have been working on LT250 quadracers for around ten years. Check out my bike on my pics page.

Hey thanks man. The bikes aren't stock, but I don't know if they have the carbs or not. I know they have pipes and some other stuff though. P.S. I am sending you a pm

I need some help with my lt250r. What does it take to get this thing as fast as a stock banshee. It doesn't need to be a rocket, just as fast as a stock banshee and I would be happy. I already have a pretty fast quad, I use the lt250r for the track.

If you want to make that 86 faster, send off the jug and get it ported. Other than that, I wouldn't spend much on it. The 87 & up has a better engine with power valve. You can I know get big bore setups on the later engines, but they're spendy. Why not just have that chick on your icon picture ride with you and nobody will care how fast you go.

I have seen 300cc kits for the 86. I missed on on Ebay about 6 months ago. Kinda bummed about that. Anyways, look at the list of stuff on my quad, and I believe mine beats a stock Banshee. Not sure, because I have never seen a stock banshee, they almost all have pipes and other things.

I dont really want to change quads, I just want this one faster. I really like the quad. I think I will look into the 310 kit and get it ported. I dont care to beat a banshee, I just think it would be nice if my 250r was like my banshee was stock. The 250r is much lighter and easy to race around the track. The 250r also has a better balance to it than my banshee. You can see at the bottom whats done to the 250r alreally.
