Bigger carb, bigger bore and porting should wake it up significantly.

yep bigger carb and porting, i would recommend a better pipe than FMF, VForce or Duncan pyramid reed valve. and i dunno if LRD does the 310 kit for the 85-86, but i emailed them and they told me it could be done for my 87.

Remember, the 85/86 doesnt have a typical reed cage.
Check out the mods on my quad.
IT is faster than 400ex and z400. Close to Raptors, and I havnt raced the new Yamaha 450 yet.

sounds alot better than my LT lol. i like the LT's just as much as i like the TRX's if not a little bit more. i like everything about the LT's, handling, accelaration, top end speed, comfort, just about everything and i wish they would make more mods for the LT, but i guess now with these new 450's, us 250 owners can forget them atleast till they all get sick of riding those 4's.

Yeah, my brother has a 86 trx250r and I like my lt250 better, even though his is faster, I just dont like the feel of them, and the the motor is "pipey"

The reed cage seemed to give a little more mid range. The power felt a little different, but tough to pinpoint the change, but I would say it is better. I got it off ebay a few weeks ago for $50. It came with some reeds that starting bowing a little so I just flipped them over. No complaints yet. I have only been to Glamis once since I put them in, but the hill runs were a little better. The trip before, my quad was sputtering a little on hard pulls, so maybe these reeds gave the extra flow needed, because I didn't have a problem this last trip.

Well, I guess I wouldnt know any difference if I didnt put them on. Sometimes you just have to try something to figure it out. I had boyesen reeds in before. Like I said, my quad ran better on this trip, than the last trip. I could buy carbon fiber reeds for this reed cage if I wanted to.
Something I forgot to mention was that the motor seemed to rev up quicker.
