swap in an '87+ motor, man! Or a Zilla motor!! The 86 engine is way different, the exhaust exits right out of the center of the jug on the 87+, and the pipe design is totally different since the two motors are so different. You'd best get a custom pipe made, or even better, get rid of that '86 motor since it's basically useless for making big power unless you're a total genius with motors and have lots of money.

waitaminute... who ported your '86 motor? did you port the intake? jeeze... there's yer problem right there I bet. I never fooled around with one before, but those things are damn near impossible to port with that screwed up reed design without screwing up the lower-end power bad.

Oh, okay. That porting sounds pretty good then. I would get a Zilla engine put in my quad in a heartbeat if I could. The engine can be modified to live just as long as some of the best 2 stroke motors around, and make power around 75hp all day long. There is no better choice for an ATV engine as far as I'm concerned.

Swapping a 1987 motor in your 1986 frame is very possible, but you'll need to do some cutting and welding. I put a 1989 RM250 motor in my 1986 Quadracer frame which is a very similar swap to installing a quadzilla or 87+ motor. If you are interested I can write you up more info on this swap later.

Oh yeah, and if you want a good custom pipe built, call Darcy's race pipes at: 1-204-667-9931. He is a very reputable pipe builder and is Canadian (in Manitboa) so shipping and duties will be much more affordable to you. He builds custom pipes for hardcore sled racers down in the states. Usually his shop is PACKED with high-dollar racing machines. This guy is a pro.
