Weird noise in my engine
#1
Well here's my new problem
I just started my lt230s and there was no problem. It started after like 5-6 kick and it is very cold outside. Anyway I started the engine, put the choke on and it stalled after 1 minute. I started it again and put the choke at its maximum.
I shut the engine after 2 minutes, and when I started it back I noticed a very strange noise in my crankcase, right under my stator cover. It's like a chain knocking on metal, I dunno.
That noise is regular, not intermittent. What can it be?

Sounds like your valves may need adjustment. I had that happen on my old
Wolverine. I got it stuck in the snow, and I was really hammering on it, and
all of a sudden, it started making that noise like you explained.

I just changed the oil, let the engine heat while running, tried to see if the noise is still there with the clutch engaged, ...
if the engine rev faster the noise is louder.

I really think it is a loose cam chain just like you said LT250Rodney, because of the noise
Well how to adjust that chain? I'm gonna buy the clymer manual soon if my quadsport keeps on breaking heheh

Adjusting the cam chain...
Well I've studied a a couple different motors lately while doing some work on them. Basically the adjuster on the side if the cylinder is a hands off thing. In other words it self adjusts itself as it needs to. They can get stuck which may require replacing it. On a honda 300 I just did you put the tensioner on last, back the screw out then release it. The springs pops out only so far then catches so it doesn't go back in. On my KQ it has a spring and ratchet system. the spring forces it out (self adjustment again) while the ratchet keeps the plunger from going back in (IE losening the chain). The 230 might be the same. I've never dug into my brother in laws 230.
So it's an easy thing to pull the tensioner and check to see if it's stuck. On the Honda it wasn't servicable, if it malfunctions and won't self adjust then you simply replace it. They seem simple enough ONCE you know how they work and there really isn't any adjustment to them. At least not the ones I've worked on.
Good Luck,
Rob

Solved!
It was one of the stator screw that came off! The screw was magnetized onto the rotor, and the 2 other screws of my stator were almost gone. The stator was about to came off!
Well I fixed it and I'm glad it wasnt worse
thanks
