Z400 wont start - please help

Could be your elevation, but i doubt it. Check and make sure your fuel and air screws aren't backed all the way in or out. By the sounds of it, I would say you were running WAY rich. The only other thing I can think of besides you fuel and air screws are in the wrong position is that you sucked some dirt in the carb and clogged up you piolet jet. Check you intake track for obstructions. If you want to be sure the problem is in the carburation (which I'm pretty sure it is) pop your air filter off and it SHOULD run better. Also, temperature could play a role in you jetting. I doubt that though because in order for your quad to go from running fine to not even starting would be a DERASTIC teperature change. like going from riding in alaska to floating in a volcano.

I am really not sure. How do I Check and make sure my fuel and air screws aren't backed all the way in or out? Are these the screws that are under the metal "plugs" or am I thinking of something else? THANK YOU

well you did clean the carbon off the plug or get a new one right. well if the plugs wet with fuel ya pluged jet or stuck choke maybe, float might be stuck open. when it does start does your header get really hot and almost melt

Ok, I pulled the carb off and did not SEE anything weird looking. Would shooting Gumout through it clean the jets??? Where would I do that? Should I replace all the diaphrams while it is off?
I had a motor guy look at teh plug and he said yes, it is WAY rich, but stated he does not know much about carbs so I am still stuck. I dont remember the pipes glowing at all, but then again it has not run for a while so....
I opened the float bowl and the float moves up and down fine, what would be sticking, the float or the little metal pin it pushes on?
Anyway thanks for the help, I know NOTHING about carbs so I have a TON of questions.
THANK YOU

Your mixture screw is #16, in this picture,
I agree,Try changing the spark plug, that may make the problem go away,
if you want to clean and adjust your carb read here.carb cleaning
How old is the gas, in the tank?

Ok, I pulled the plug and have replaced it once and it still fouled out (rich mix). I pulled the carb and have cleaned it all out, look very good but flushed it well. I will reflush it again tomorrow with carb cleaner. Is there any way to know if it is clean??? Someone said that a valve problem could also cause a rich mix? IS there any truth to that?
Thanks again!!
Thanks again!!

I double checked the chock cable and it looks fine and does not seem to be hanging up (Great idea, simple but I never thought of it!). I also got new plugs again, should I run one step hotter on the plug? I also clean the carb and going to do it yet again. Any other thoughts?
Thanks
