My girlfriends is close to stock. Supertrapp exhaust and a K&N, and its geared high for speed not torque. It hit about 83 KM/H on my GPS. Respectable.

A stocker 230 should run a little over 50mph. When was the last time the bike was tuned up? Is your gearing stock? I'd get a new filter(air and oil)change to a good quality atv oil. The more you gear it for top speed, you will lose bottom end power. A pipe and k&n make a noticable difference. My last 230 was pretty modified, and ran about 60, but would easily pull the front end up in 3rd gear.

If you want speed you need a big sprocket on the front and a small one on the back. If you want wheelie busting tourqe you need small on the front and big on the back. But each way sacrifices the other. You cant have speed and torque. I think im at 15 / 38, which is geared pretty high not sure though. With that gearing and the few mods I have, it will still go a little over 80 kmh (thats kilometers, I'm Canadian) and in the first two gears it wheelies like mad, and third just needs a small bunp or a pull from me and up it goes. Try modding it a bit and see, I got the supertrapp exhaust for 130 cdn on a closeout at royal distributing, and the filter was like 40cdn.

It might be cheaper for you to look there unless shipping is killer, its all in Canadian dollars. www.royaldistributing.com

Why is it high? If youve got the power to turn it its never too high.

Your motor probably has worn valve seals. You may only have to replace those to get it to stop using oil. While in there though, you may want to do the rings, have it honed, and go to a stiffer valve spring, and new valves. If you have the $$$ a cam will wake it up a lot.
