I heard that the LT80 has restrictor plates on the intake, and exhaust. Is this true? Will it hurt the engine or damage anything on the quad if i take them off? Also how do you do this?
Thanks

What year is the LT80?? For the 2000 model there are restrictors in the carburetor and the exhaust. The owner's manual for my 2000 LT80 shows how to remove these restrictors. Be advised that when I removed the exhaust restrictor, the power increased SIGNIFICANTLY. This machine will now scoot my 200lb frame just about anywhere I want it to go, and in a hurry -- so obviously I now make use of the throttle limiter for the kids. I still haven't removed the carburetor restrictor. The exhaust restrictor is a round washer that sits at the manifold. Simply remove the exhaust pipe and the washer will fall out. It's the same principal with the carburetor, but I have no experience with that one -- and remember this is for a 2000 model -- not sure about any of the others. Hope this helps.

It will not hurt the quad if you take them off. They are just safety features to limit the speed for younger riders until they become more experienced.

All years are the same. I removed both off my sons '89 Lt80.

Any further info on the Carb restrictor Out there? Would like to reduce power on my son's LT-80 as he is young and just learning the ropes. Throttle limiter works, but, still alot of power. Thanks.

You want to further restrict the power? My brother just got an LT80 for his son, and not only did he remove the restricters, He sharpened the transfer ports on the cylender. Maybe that's too much power for a 2 year old.
One thing you can do is install a pro-design kill switch on the back of the 80, with a fairly long rope, and ride behind him... If he gets a little crazy, or goes where he shouldn't, pull the plug on him. (this is all in theory... we haven't tested it, but we plan to)

Outbackrider -- if you want to restrict the power more, buy a washer with a 3/8 hole in it and a 1.25" outside diameter, and stick it in the exhaust at the manifold. Believe me, this limits the power a bunch. These are the dimensions of the washer that I pulled out of my 2000 LT80. I assume it would be the same for the earlier ones.

I now took off the exhaust pipe on my 1993 LT80.. I looked inside and all I saw was a washer, I took it out and asked my dad about it, and he said that was the gasket and i should leave it in there.. Is this true? or was that what I was supposed to take out??
