Default Hard starting zilla

Well I finally had the money for the new PVL stator($166!!). So now it has good spark. I STILL can't kick start it. After we roll started it(yes I know its not good for it) it ran like a dream. I can definetly tell a difference in the stators. It kind of lagged up to about 3000(guessing), but after that it was a rocket. From idle to 3000 was about 2 sec, then up to 7000(guess) was less than a second(this is in 1st or 2nd gear). My powervalve is set at 0(I haven't been able to turn it, gonna try some more today), and it has 100lbs of compression(I know thats low). It idles great, and aside from taking a while to rev up(in gear only) it runs fine. My main is 200, pilot is 75, and I dont know the needle right now(I will check later). It has 87 octane with Klotz oil mixed 32:1. It has a 39mm PWK(just a guess, might be a 41) from DR that is polished. The idle screw is screwed all the way in(I am guessing thats what it is?, on my other PWK it moves the slide) Is there a air mixture screw like on a CVK(downdraft 4-stroke)? I am getting ready to just part it out.

I can't believe no one has any ideas!!!

I have been trying throughout the day to start it, with only a stone-bruised right foot to show for it. I changed carbs(another 39mm PWK) and needle settings(I went to the middle of the needle, it was at the end). and nothing. Should I go to the richest position? What about timing? Could it be off.

You hafta loosen the 2 philip screws on the power valve **** to turn it. If the carbs jetted right and the timing is set, it should fire right up, unless you can't kick it hard enough That's all I got to offer....

hey man the last time i lost a cylinder i was at the dunes climing thunder it leand out and quit didnt lock up but wouldnt start so my buddy pull started me and ran fine but really didnt run it strongest when you shut it off and let it set for awhil wouldnt start you had to pull start it. it would start fine has long has it was warm and i checked the comp. it had just around 100psi. when i tore it down this winter you could see where the piston just damn near locked up. just honed it and got another piston and fires right up.

Ok, first things first.

100lbs is low. I know it will run with that but its low.
Check your reeds, they must seal on the edges. This is a very common reason for hard starting of two strokes.

There are two screws on the PWK that deal with idle, one is a mixture, the other deals with idle speed. The one you can readily see raises and lowers the slide. Below it (recessed into the body) is the mixture screw. Turning it in richens the mix (idle only), turning it out leans the mix. But, if it idles ok once you pull start it I'd leave the carb alone and fix the low compression problem and check the reeds.

And the power valve has no effect on how the engine starts. Mine was basically non functional for 6 months and I can start mine while sitting down (after its warm).

The low compression is why it doesn't want to start, and probably why it's not running good too. No easy fix other than to rebuild... it's time.
If you part it out, I want the entire motor.... let me know?

Default Hard starting zilla

my friend just got a zilla the top end had jsut been rebuilt so we didnt run it hard at all .. just like half throtttle finally after about 2 tanks of gas. we decided to run it hard. he took it up the sand mountain ran like a dream top of third then next time.. half way up it just killed. flat out from top end of third to a dead stop wouldnt kick start at all but turned it around and pop clutched it down the hill and it worked. ran ti seemed fine so we kept running it it kept doin that so we stopped there was still no way we could kick start it but it jump started fine. so we took it home and talked to a race shop they said we had a blown piston because we could push the startor down with our hands and in first gear you could move it like it was in nutural when it wasnt running so we tore it down and the piston had a big break in the edge of it and the cylinder side walls were scratched.. so we took the cylinder in to get it bored out to 100 over and now its a 530 and we got a new piston put it back together it ran fine during break in and all but once we ran a few tanks threw we took it all out ***** and guess what.. same problem it died. so we stopped running it right then in fear of loosing another piston and having to rebore.. when it blew the first time we were told we could be running to lean. so we pulled the jet it was a 470 so we went and saw what we could do.. we threw a 500 in the biggest the shop had and that was on this second time and it still did the same thing what do you guys think the problem is. its no the seal on the reads because we sprayed carb cleaner around the edges and idle didnt change liek they said it would if that was the problem.. if anyone knows what to do or where to start that would be nice it has been a big headace because the bike is hella fast but we cant get it to run it also has a hot rod crank that is just pushing this bike its amazing.. thanks for your help

Check your main crank bearings, you may have to have bushings installed... When wearing out the cases they tend to leak at higher rpms, this may help you out...

As for "gotmuddy" Go for the rebuild of the topend and remeber Zillas have never been just know for easy starting After a good bore and piston kit...Stand back, because its going to have some compression then...

Hope this helps ya'll out....
