You're on the right track. Pipe/silencer, reeds, air filter, carb, porting, etc!

On any two stroke the best mod to start out with and the one that will increase your ponys the most is aftermarket pipes and silencer. You will really feel the difference one they are on just make sure you get them all connected together right I had my Silencer disconnect from my pipe the other day it sucked the bike would still run but there wasnt enough backpressure to pull out. Well enough about me if you get your exhaust system on and feel like you need more speed cause i know I did Buy a Keihin 39mm PWK Carb it makes a world of difference from the crappy stock ones beleive me you will love it.

A Keihin 39mm is too much carb for a 86, not to mention that it is physically too big to even fit on. If the Quad is really built then, a 38 may be used.

Bad Chad pretty much said all you need.

You are almost on the right track.Getting extra pony's is not going to get you to a higher top speed, but only faster response ans acceleration. If you are going for power, you are on the perfect track. But if you are looking for a higher response and top speed and acceleration, you need a comnination of things. Get the full exhaust, i would get that first. Then slowly start working on your suspension, like Nitrogen shocks or springs. Next buy some different sprockets to go faster. There are different types--going fast or getting there fast--your choice. On my 86 LT250r i ran for Renthal sprockets for top speed, i can go around 85 MPH although i am at times flippen scard. Next after sprockets, get more parts for performance on your motor. You don't have to do it in this order, but it is the best way!
