hey, i am thinking about purchasing either a suzuki lt250 quadracer or a honda 250r. I have heard many good things about both and i was wondering witch is the better quad. By better i mean, more reliable, faster, etc.

You're going to be hard-pressed to find a nice Honda R for between 1500-$2000. But you will be able to find a decent lt for around there. If you're looking for better reliability and faster top speed, than stock for stock the R is better. Suzuki made good engines but put them in junk frames. The R's are better handling as well and over the years through comparisons have been the better bike. Though you'll have to shell out around $3000 for a nice R you won't have to wrench on and can just ride.

I beg to differ, Suzi made a great bike. Trust me, I have owned 2 of them and am rebuildin a 3rd. I picked up my current bike for 2100. The only work i have had to do is rewire the stator to CDI. It has ran with all honda's and Banshee's. As for handling, on the flat track nothin can catch it, but in MX it is equal.

I own an '87 LT- and it would be dang hard for me to even consider forkin out over $3 grand just so I could say I owned a Honda--especially when there are so many nice LT's to be had for cheap. I love mine- starts easier than any honda I've ever owned (that's several), and it has proved stone-reliable. I've seen a bunch of nice LT's for under $2k- mine cost me $1600, and it's been just as reliable (actually more) than my wife's '00 Rancher!! Use the money you save on mods and you'll run right with those R's-if you don't outrun them that is.

Sand Dude,
I'll agree with you on an LT on a flattrack but for MX they are NOT equal. The Honda is more durable and absorbs bumps much better. Also the power can't quite be gotten from an LT like out of an R. I used to own an '89LT250R and was frustrated about this. I race flattrack and could not get equal power to my 250R. The handling(cornering ability, not bump absorbtion) was awesome, arguably the best ever stock chassis for that. But because the holeshot is so important I had to go back to a 250R.

I don't know what mods you had on your lt, but trust me, I race flat and MX and I run with mostly Banshees but there are a few honda's out there. The Lt runs right there with them, and as for bump assorbtion, I believe it to ride like a cadilac, I have the rear revalved for my weight. It assorbs all obsticles and has power to be spared. So eljoe, why jump on a band wagon, go for the LT, everyone has a honda!

Guys I own a moded 86 trx250r.Let me tell U.With a good pipe,silencer,airfilter and gearing a LT250r is way faster than a TRX250r with a pipe,silencer,gearing,airfilter.I say go TRX though.Reliability is not an issue with a TRX250r.
Both machines don't handle a MX track stock very well. The honda does handle better though.
