400 air box lid on or off?

when I got the quad (Yesterday) he had a 150 dyno jet with the cover off and it bogged on top of 1st and 2nd also wich is what was reccomended from dyno jet sheet, so I was gonna make it to run with lid on (My kid likes water )and endcap of snorkel removed wich they reccomend a 144 but since my lid has some holes drilled in I went to a 146 (DJ) started with lid taped up and when I wind out 1st and 2nd and I think sometimes 3rd it will break up runs strong at first, then I removed tape and same then I removed lid and huge gain in bottem coulden,t keep front end down in 1st 2nd and sometimes 3rd but still breaking up at top of throttle?oh and my (dj) needle is in 3rd slot wich is there reccomendation I dont want to pull carb off a bunch of times if you know what i mean

yeah, i know what you mean thats , why i replaced my four brass screws with hex head screws. But you are not getting enough gas thats why you have to go up in jetting. Listen......... Start out with a 170 jet and go from there. This is with the top off. I am telling you it will work. Also have had any problems with your cam chain and it becoming loose?

yeah I do, what I meant did you mean dyno jet or mikuni, I know the main jet, but dyno jets are differnt from stock mikuni jets as far as size goes but I,ll try going with the largest jet thats in kit
i think it might be a 155 or 160, or maybe i,ll just order a couple larger jets

I dont think there is a differance. But i had the same problem, the stage two kit i bought only had jets going up to 155 from dyno jet and that wasnt even high enough. So i took a dril bit, i think its the smallest drill bit in a case 1/16 or 1/36 i dont know, but i saw that it was just a little bit bigger than the 155 in diameter. So i took a small jet that i was never going to use and drilled it out, which is now comparable with a 170-175 size jet. And it runs FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!

This motor needs to breath, so you have to do something. Out in the desert, if I run without a lid the airbox just becomes a "sandbox"! I installed as many of those White Bros (or Uni) round filtered air vents, as I could fit on the lid. Works well.
