Default how much is this quad worth????

i am lookin at a 1987 LT250R quad. It has a Dyno Port pipe, Holeshot tires, ITP rims, extra set of plastics, ac nerfs, lonestar swingarm, no bumper, no light. It has recently had transmission problems and neither he nor i know what is wrong with it. It will not start because there isnt enough compression. He thinks its because of the head gasket but i know it could be rings or a cracked piston or something. I would really like this wheeler but if the tranny still has problems it could be 500-1000 dollars just to get it fixed. He wants somewhere around $1000 for the machine. i think hes nuts. What do you guys think? keep in mind i only have 1500 dollars to spend. what should i offer him? i was thinkin mayb 600 bucks cash and mayb hed take it? what do u think? your help is appreciated.

give him 800, after u try 600, and then buy an engine off ebay. there's one on there right now. u could probably pick it up for like $500. the aftermarket swingarm is a big plus with the chasis.

Hey there!
To be honest......I would try elswhere!! If you look a little more you can find something better
and one that runs!!!! Unless you plan on makin it a hobby machine and not worried about running it this season, then I would possibly consider it.But you could also be takin a chance on
a big can o worms on the inside of the engine. If the guy is willing why don't you see if you can have a mechanic tear it down and see whats up first, tell him you'll pay to have new gaskets put on
and kick the mechanic a couple of greenbacks.Just a thought.

$1000 sounds like a good deal to me. You can buy a running motor off ebay for $500, then sell yours for $200 pretty easily. Now you have a good running quad for around $1300.
Remember, only 85/86 motors are the same. 87-92 wont fit. With some mods, a zilla motor will go in. Great project if your looking for a really fast quad.

an 87 is a odd year. the bottom end has most of the same parts as an88-92, but different head. i think the read cage is bigger or something, some people like them better. if it were i, i would get and put an 88-92 motor and conver it, wouldnt be too hard, but i think u would need a head stay. or put a 500, un less u will be riding mostly woods then stick with 250(powervalve).

It may be worth $1000 if everything (except engine) is in really good condition. Can you get some pics? If you can, post them and we will let you know if its worth the $1000.

Site unseen, I would give him $500 for the quad. Depending on the damage in the trans, it could cost $100 to fix or a $1000. You will have to open her up and take a peak. If you have never done this before, get help and a manual.
