Want to buy an LT 160
#2
I actually bought a 2000 lt160 for my dad about a month ago. The utility version. Apart from the short span between the tires, it's a good quad. It bounces instead of absorbs most bumps.... It has the ability to move fairly quick for a small quad, but it takes a lil while to get there. I used it to teach my niece how to drive a quad. (she's 12.) After about 2 hours, and several practice rides w/ me on the back while she learned how/when to shift, and how to use reverse... she was out riding the trails by herself. (with me following close behind on another quad of course.)
a good beginner quad.

It has its limitations, but for an intermediate bike it isn't bad. The newer one without the racks (50 lbs. lighter!), should be a big improvement. The engine has a surprising amount of low end power, and the machine is tough and reliable. The suspension is limited, and the balooney tires make it bounce sometimes.
Be aware of the fact that the kids will outgrow this class of bike pretty quick. My daughter only rode hers for a year. She moved along to the Recon pretty fast. Wish I had kept it for my son though.

I disagree that kids will outgrow them quickly. I have one that I still ride to this day. . . and I am 6'3, 260 lbs. It is small enough to go places others can't, tough enough to work and comfortable. I love mine to death.
