I have never been stranded by anything major yet. Sure my share of stuff HAS broken but its to be expected for a bike that is 12 years old. You want to get on and go and never look back, get a newer fourstoke. If you feel you can handle routine maintenance ad tuning the LT will be fine.

Most motors last a long time if you maintain them correctly. If you repipe and add a new exhaust, rejet! As for the body, wheel bearings, and brakes - well that all depends on how you ride. If your a jumper, expect to replace all three. If you ride hard, expect to be replacing the latter two. Other than that just do some routine check ups, suspension, brakes, etc every week and repair things before they get out of hand. Someone else should be able to answer this question more throughly. But I can say that the service manuals on our bike are very simple, way preventative maintainance than I'm used to on my kawasaki KZ400 4 stroke. Keep on keeping on.

They are pretty reliable. Just the do the maintenance as mentioned. Afterall the bikes do have some age. I ride mine pretty hard and it's always there for me and has been since 94. About the only thing I go through are pistons. If you have some basic mechanical skills and don't mind getting your hand dirty once in a while you will be very satisfied. I just always take a walk through of my quad before I take it out. Don't want to be stranded 30 miles out. Even with a brand new quad it doesn't guarantee that you won't break down, but with it being new it is less likely to happen untill it gets some age on it.
