what exactly does the snorkel do for a quad, and why do u have to remove it to gain preformence after adding an hmf pipe

dont want to sound stupid, but i want to know this stuff

and anyone who ordered the hmf pipe, what jetting did u run. i ordered a 170 main and that was it.

I picked up a K&N filter for mine and the guy at Alba recommended that I remove the lid and snorkel and use a 165 main and 3 turns on the air screw. Its for better air flow and less restrictive like FsT4WrD said.

The snorkel just pulls off, and is easily put back in. It's held in with a rubber grommet. All the snorkel is really for is so that if you get yourself in water that's kinda high....it still gives a path for air through your airbox. Other than that....it's really useless. It does restrict some airflow....because of the foam around the tip, so you will gain a little more air.

If you still have the stock filter, I'd highly recommend getting a high flow filter as a replacement. It's almost pointless to buy a pipe (slip-on or full) and not get the filter. Unless, of course, you just want your Z400 to sound better. The stock filter is very restrictive in comparison to either a K&N or Twin Air or UNI.

You don't have to remove the whole snorkle, just the end cap that is held in place by two tabs. I left the tube on cuz the ears with the hole was perfect to hold that vent hose that was previously held by the end cap.
