what makes coolant flow out of hole on a lt?
#1
the little factory hole that is next to the coolant drain bolt, what makes coolant drip out of there. i am replacing the entire waterpump, but i'm curious to way it started dripping?

it was most likely the mechanical seal . it is usally the firstto let coolant threw then goes out from there [DONT FORGET THE BOLT THAT HOLDS THE IMPELLER ON IS LEFT HANDED THREADS !!!!! make sure you also put a new bolt seal washer on it .

If the seal was cracked and not worn; this is sometimes an indication of interrupted flow to the pump (producing heat).....and then thermal shock to the seal itself when coolant is re-introduced.

Grainger and a few other places are now selling mechanical seals (most are minimum 5/8" shaft, unfortunately); yet not sure what type you've got.
You'll need a shaft diameter and seat O.D. (along with a seat cross-section diameter if this is a typical type 21 mechanical seal) to check around.
