Actually I probably don't know the proper terminology.
The shifter spline goes into the side of the engine case, that's what I refer to as the "shifter side" vs. the kick starter side of the engine. I'm not sure if that is referred to the left or the right side of the engine, if you're sitting on the bike it is at your left foot. The case itself where the spline goes into the engine block. The chain came off of the sprocket and wadded up on the engine side, when it did it broke the case. It doesnt' look like it can be salvaged.
