Will a Hole in the muffler stop idle on a 1986 lt230E quadrunner

I have a hole in my muffler and i want to know why this is causing my atv not to idle. the hole is half the size of a golf ball .

nope, i had a big hole on the whole bottom my muffler on the old lt185 and it idled fine
