How do I approach Suzuki with this one?
First I'd like to thank everyone for all the suggestions with this problem.
I considered taking it to Suzuki for it's first oil change without telling them but I didn't want to get caught in a lie and then have no ground to stand on with Suzuki.
I bought the tapping screw with the smaller screw in it but the two of them together would have hung slightly below the skid plate. I think I would be asking for trouble with this set up if I skidded over a rock or something. The skid plate can not be moved. It is the stock one that is welded to the frame.
Finally, I put the quad up on ramps and looked up in the hole. Sure enough the lower threads were stripped but the drain plug was not long enough to strip out the upper threads in there. So I bought a longer bolt and a new teflon gasket to use as the drain plug. I screwed it in there until it "caught" the upper threads that had been unused. Funny how I was able to tighten in down pretty good this time without it stripping out at all. I hope that holds with only about half the threads being used because if it doesn't I'm not sure what to try next!
Thanks again for the help. I sure hope this works.

be careful that the longer bolt does not hit anything in the motor or block an oil passage. I work at a shop and have seen both of these things happen. the best way to fix it is to put a helicoil in. I strongly recommend you look into this. the kit is expensive to buy ,but most repair shops have them. it should be about $15-20 for the insert.

The longer bolt that I used is only a 1" long bolt compared to the original drain plug which was 1/2" and so it barely sticks past the threads in there. I figured that if the threads were in there that deep, then a bolt could thread into them that far with out getting in the way of anything. Good point though. That is why I didn't try to stick a 3 inch long bolt in there or something. I'm sure I would have screwed something up with that.
So what's a helicoil?

I looked at Ronnies.com but didn't see any oil drain plate. The drain plug hole is in a oil pan that takes up the entire lower half of the motor. There is no separate drain plate that I can see.

a helicoil installs new threads. basically what you have to do is tap the hole oversized with a special tap and then this insert will go right in. you will use the same stock sized bolt. it works just as good as new. this is probably what your dearler would do if you brought it to him with it stripped out. your dealer should be able to do this for under $75 total with a new bolt from suzuki. good luck
