Thinking of a Vinson, Convince Me....
#1
I am considering trading up the Rubi on a used Suzuki Vinson 4x4 Auto simply because of the fun factor. A few questions I need to ask are that while I know the Vinson doesn't have a locker, I've heard that by tapping the front breaks lightly, you can keep both front tires spinning. Does this really work enough to pull you out of a mudhole as well as a locker would if you do it right? Also, I was really wanting a Prairie 650 for the longest time, but I heard about the high-maintanence CVT. My friend's Yamahas (Grizzly and Kodiak) have belts of course, but have done absolutely no maintanence and have had no problems that I know of. How does the belt system in the Vinson work as far as maintanence and dependability in water, mud, etc? Are there already wires running from the battery down to the space for the winch on a Vinson, or is the "ready for a winch" thing just referring to the space in the front. Is there a mount already installed for a winch or would you have to get one of those if you bought a winch too? Is the Vinson a generally reliable machine? Has anyone had problems with the 4x2-4x4 switch? Any reoccuring problems? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

i love my vinson zero problems, i had to replace frount wheelbearings, and 1 cv axel, due to my own overuseage, i almost got yanked off a cliff, when a sp500 was attached to me, and my winch, it riped my vinny foward 10ft, and left the sportsman hanging there.
4x4 no problems, and yes the brake trick works
belt is no matience
04 vinsons are wired for a winch, others are not but the kit is 310$, warn a2500 with mount
btw how do you like that 424 on the rubi, i bought 1 but have yet to install it.

Well it's kind of funny you asked 581, when I first installed it I had to jack the front end up to engage 2x4. Now that it's been ridden a little in 2x4, the switch finally got wore just enough to positively lock in and out on it's own power. That's just putting about 10 miles on it in 2x4. If you install yours and are sure your cable tension and everything else is good, just have patience and get out there and put some miles on it in 2-wheel drive. Some people claim the Rubi to be a whole new machine in 2x4, but I just don't see it. Yes, you can powerslide and all that good stuff, but other than that, it's still a Honda. Honda utilites have never really been the best sliders so there's a limit to what you can and can't do with your new "Traxlok" abilities. What's a good price on a used 4x4 Auto Vinson in decent shape with somewhat low miles? I don't care what year. Why semi-auto coyote?

You just seemed a tiny bit concerned about the belt drive auto.
I'm considering buying a Vinson with the semi-auto as a second or maybe first quad. I wouldn't be buying until next Spring. (I need to buy a truck before Winter.)
It just seems like a Vinson with a manual shift would be a heck of a machine. Kinda like my Foreman but hopefully with more power and more top speed. Hopefully, no worries. They both have a Torsen diff.
So far, I've only been on a Vinson auto. Is the manual shift Vinson any thinner in the mid-section? Where your knees would be.

Well being a Honda rider I would prefer a beltless machine, but I've heard Suzuki CVTs hold up very well and I trust Vinson581's word on it as well. I have become lazy and wouldn't want anything except an automatic unless of course, it was a sport quad.

i would think long and hard about a 5spd vinson, alot of the guys over at atvnation.com then forums- then suzuki- and possible vinson 5spd fixes..
have had alot of problems with grinding gears, and such, i am on my origional belt @2600mi and it looks new i have blown it out twice since i owned it, and both times because i sunk her, funny thing was the tranny, and motor were full of water like a lake, but the belt NEVER slipped, and boy a little mud and water in the motor never hurt anything which i still cant belive to date, considering i had to drive over 10miles once we got them started (only would run standing up)!!!.
go with a auto vinny its 100x better power and handlieing than the rubi, and i think it can do more work personally from experance with both..
price- 4500, mabey less, i would try and get a 03+ 02s had some shifter issues but were cleared by 03.
goodluck
