I don't have a king quad, I bought a 500 quadrunner and I did buy the extended warranty. In my opinion, it is not worth the $400. You have to follow the mfg suggestions for service exactly and all service must be done by the dealer. Most of the recommended service can be done by the owner if you have any mechanincal ability. I wouldn't buy it if I were you. I won't buy the extended warranty on my next machine.

Jester,
I disagree with Dave.I had the extended warrenty on my 87 KQ and it saved me alot of repair dollars.
It is also not necessary to have the dealer do all the maintenance on the quad. Not once did I ever get asked to see the service record of my KQ when I took it in for extended warrenty work.
I also had a 4 yr extended warrenty on my 99 Sportsman, good thing,I used it quite a few times.Never did anyone ever ask to see my service records for that quad either.I will soon be purchasing the extended warrenty for my 00 Xplorer to.
There are a ton of things that could go wrong on a 4x4 quad,[very expensive to]its better to pay now than to pay later.Unless you only ride the quad like it is a ''Sunday only''car,Id buy the extended warrenty.I will tell you this though, the extended warrenty is only as good as the dealer wants it to be.Some dealers will go to bat for you, others could care less.So find a dealer that is willing to back you when you take the quad in for warrenty work or the extended warrenty will not be worth it.=====Bill

Jester, the manufacturer only gives you six months of warranty service. Did you purchase more warranty and if so, who's the provider? Do you have a deductable? Do you have insurance on your quad and if so, why get more warranty if there's nothing wrong with your quad?

Ecorman,
Back in 87 when I had the KQ,I also purchased the extended warrenty with it.I road the quad for about a yr and a half and the front end [differential] went to hell on me.My deductable was 25 dollars, the entire repair bill was over 600 dollars. After that, the rear wheel bearings needed replacing, repair bill was over 300 dollars,I paid a ded of 25 dollars again.
Whether a person has insurance or not does nothing to help him when his ''QUAD'' fails him.[non accident related]I had insurance on my 87 KQ to,but that did me NO good for quad problems that were not related to an accident.Quad insurance and extended warrentys have NOTHING in common. If your KQs front differential went to hell on you today, your insurance would do you NO good, the only thing that would help you is an extended warrenty. So really, without the extended warrety, you will pay all the repair bill.I hope this helps clear things a little.TOP OF THE DAY TO YA,====Bill

Thanks Bill. I was really thinking that if a person had a good piece of equipment and maintained it for a time, it may not need the extended warranty. But you bring a good point that often happens, some unexpected breakdown. Then if you have the additional coverage, it's a good thing. But if you have the coverage and don't get to use it, you will be out of a lot of $$$. It's not like you have to use the quad to drive to work, school or church. So you can take your time fixing it or paying to fix it. All depends on the user, how it will get done. And one things for sure! If you don't want the resposibility to work on it, better get the warranty. $25.00 deductable ain't bad when you have a $600.00 repair bill.
