What all can you do to a suzuki 250R?
I have a 86 suzuki 250R it runs ok but i want to do about everythign I can do to it. I got boysen reades in it already and also got it bored .080 over and also got a dg pipe and siliencer. the jug is already ported and polished. I heard you can take .010 off of the head to make t run better (still thinkign about doing that). I also got barnette clutches in it. I was wondering what else can i do to my motor to make it run better? Also I heard you can put bigger carbs on these motors. If so what will fit on and what will not? My buddy wanted to try a 500R carb on a 250R. Think that will work?
thanks,
Jimmy
PS I am new to this thread and very glad i finaly found a spot to talk to people about my quad ans also maybe get some advice on it!

How hard is it to do? My buddy has a motor and was going to do it to his but he didn't know if it would work and how much modifications would be needed. ALso what pipe would you have to use on it? Let me know on that also. I for now would just like to make my 250motor faster tho.
thanks again,

I would say 36 mm carb to 38MM max stock is 34MM Clamp on K&N air filter (no more riding in puddles or mud though) I dont know much about DG exhaust. I would try the carb and K&N you could get used carb on ebay or borrow from friends quad to try it first? I run 39MM on mine but I have a 88 power valve motor. my 02 cents

Well, it all depends on what you want it to do. If you trail ride and want more power than the best thing to do is mod your stock motor. If you are specialized in that you drag race, hill climb or dune ride, than you can deviate from stock without as much compromise. What I'm getying at is the further you get from stock, the more you give up. For instance, with stock you run pump gas, have a very water resistant air intake, and excellent relialiblity. It's basically kick and go. The more mods you do, the less user friendly your quad becomes. Let's say you go as far as a Quadracer 500 or 4 cylinder inline engine swap then your quad instantly becomes very specialized as to how it performs and you are no longer trail friendly. This is fine if you only drag race or hill climb but for plain old trail riding you make a bunch of compromises.

go for the head mod its cheap and will raise the Compression. I really do not know to much about the 85-86 250Rs if you had 87-92 I would have been more helpful. if you get the 38mm carb and a K&N clamp on filter you will notice much better performance and top end power. then when its muddy season put stock airbox back on with lid off or something(might need to rejet from clamp on to airbox) you will get her figure out.
