Well, the way I look at it, I don't need a quad for work, and any place a sport can't go, I don't want to be. I'll take powerslides and wheelies over mudrunning and all the extra associated maintenance anyday. But be honest with yourself, the advice CraneMan gave is very sound.

Reconranger Yes my 4x4 does weigh about 600lbs but If you know how to ride it then you won't have problems, By the way the sport quad does handle the off camber better like you stated but he is choosing 1 kind of quad and not 2 so overall the sport utility quad would be the bestchoice here. Of course off road riding in different parts of the counrty does vary quite abit, so we are probably both right for our regions. The only reason I bought my z400 was for going to the dunes and railing on logging roads, but it has also hit a trail or 2.

Paintball-How does your present bike, the Recon, do in the stuff you are riding? This should give you a good judge of what works and what doesn't. Your Recon is 2X4, so if you are getting along well on it, you know you don't need a 4X4. If you are getting stuck a lot, you probably do need a 4X4.

Your Recon has moderate ground clearance (about 6"). That is somewhere in between a sport bike (4+") and a full on utility (10"). Are you gettin hung up on stuff? If not, you might be ok on a sport. If you are, you may need a full on ute. You get the picture.......................

quadduck-No big deal! It's good for the readers to see all sides of a question!

I guess my problem with the present crop of utes is that they show a lot of their "farm tractor heritage". What we need is another class of bike, a TRUE SPORT UTE, that is somewhere between a sport bike and a full on ute. Kind of the Wolverine concept, but taken to the extreme. Light and agile, with shaft drive and moderate ground clearance. Most people don't need a work quad, but can occasionally use 4wd. We were hoping to see a machine in this class this year from Honda, but it didn't happen.
