04 Kodiak 450 or Vinson?
My dad is looking at getting a new quad. Right now he has a Honda Rancher 2x4. He wants to keep the solid axle but we want four wheel drive. We do real fast trail riding where a solid axle is nice for handling. But we also like to play in the mud. We thought about getting the twin peaks 700 but aren't sure if we can afford it. Right now we're leaning toward the Kodiak because of the locker. We want good handling and the ability to go anywhere. What do you guys think?

I've read a bunch or good reviews about the Vinson and it sounds good. The only thing i'm worried about is the front differential. I'd hate to get stuck when one tire could easily pull you out. My dad doesn't like those big mud tires because he likes sporty handling so we'd probably stick with the stock tires for a while. How do those do?

I ride with guys that have the diff lock. I can go anyplace and sometimes more places than they can. The extra tire (IMO) does not make that big of a difference. If I get stuck, they will be stuck too. Good luck, they are both good machines, I just like Suzuki.

If you want a solid axle you better hurry and get an 04...they are IRS for 05.Both are good machines and I know of numerous people including myself that have had Kodiaks and they are rock solid reliable. The Vinson is probably quicker but like people say on the trail most people only ride 15-20 mph( at least thats what my buddies whine about because I have the 650).I almost got a Vinson because I liked the way the handled but went with the Prairie because for $400 more it was much more quad.I say that because I think the same kinda applies here......you are only giving up 50cc but are gaining the locker and another feature the Yamaha has is a park position which is nice.I think list for list the Vinson is $400 more.
There is not a reliablilty question here but between the two the Yamaha is a better buy IMO.
