hey guys...im tryin to take the end cap off of my yoshimura exhaust...i wanna take out the quiet core. My friend with a yfz450 just took it out of his big gun and the amount of low end torque he got just from doing that is amazing. One problem...when i went to go take the allen head bolts out, i stripped them all because they were in there soooo tight. Any ideas how to get them out now. i kinda tried an easy out, but couldn't really get them. I tried a dremel to put some notches, but the size i have is a little big, im gonna try some smaller ones tomorrow. Any body else have any better ideas than those ones maybe...Thanks
Also, is it worth running 93 octane in my Z?
Thanks again,
Tony

I've been down this road.Get a drill bit and a drill(The drill bit needs to be the same size or a little bigger than the shank of the bolt).Slowly start drilling the head of the bolt(the allen head will help keep your bit lined up).Don't put alot of pressure on the because you only want go until the head falls off and then stop(do this to all 3).Then slide the cap off and the rest the bolts should unscrew by hand(if not ,use vise grips). Then go to the hardware store and pick up some new bolts an your all set. This should work easily for you;It worked like a charm for me...........

Before you start drilling any thing, take a pair of (locking pliers) , you know the pliers that you adjust on the back of the handle to make it smaller or bigger. Oh, ya i just rememberd the name of the pliers, Vice Grips. Those should work it happend to me on my yoshi exhaust.

ok....well....i drilled off the heads of the bolts, that part worked great. I took the end cap off. Only problem is now I still can't get the rest of the bolt out. I tried the vice grips, but theres just not enough of the bot sticking out to get a good enough of a grip. what should i do now?? haha.....i have an easy out that would be small enough i think...only problem is that I'm not 100% sure how they work. Any other ideas????

yeah...no luck there....the bolts are fused in there or something haha...its getting a bit ridiculous......i drilled one out and used the easy out, and actually broke the easy out off in the damn bolt...AHHHH....im starting to get pissed for being so dumb

sometimes if smack the bolt on the end like you were driving a nail they will free up and then you can turn it.Doesn't work everytime but, who knows. Can't believe that they would be that tight. You could always take the muffler to a machine shop and let them try.

I know, I can't believe they are that tight either...i've never seen anything like it. i'd drill the whole things out and just put a hela coil in, but i'm not sure if i can do that to my exhaust....not exactly sure, i've only used a hela coil once and it wasnt in anything like this. Another friend said to run it for a while and maybe the pipe will get hot enough and maybe loosen the bolts....who knows....ill try tapping on them like you said too. Do u know anything about the hela coils??? I may have to end up taking it to a mahcine shop...who knows, cuz ive never seen any bolts stuck that bad...its not like they are rusted or anything...its strange

Take the other two bolts off and pull the end cap off the exhaust pipe. after that there should be enough thread sticking out to get some vice grips on there. VICE grips should work. yes the exhaust bolt do get stuck like this because they have lock tight in them and water and dirt gets in there as well. Before you crank it over with the vice grips give the end of the bolt a couple taps with a hammer.
