Default New guy here w/ questions on LTZ250...

Hi....I just bought my wife a new LTZ250 today and this is our first quad. We just spent a week in Durango and my wife had a blast cruising around behind the kids and I on the trails there. Our kids and I all ride dirt bikes. She was riding her Dad's Honda "Foreman" utility type quad...

I have a couple questions about all the "stuff" you can get for these quads. When I look at an ATV magazine, they are selling every imaginable part you can think of (i.e. armor plates for the entire under-carriage, front bumpers, rear bumpers, winches and on and on...). How much of this stuff is actually necessary? My wife is a total beginner and I'm *NOT* looking for performance upgrades at this point. We live in Southern California and I guess we'll do some riding at Glamis and Ocotillo Wells but we'll also do (2) separate weeks of riding on trails in Durango, Colorado.

The one item I think I want to get first is the velcro'd shock covers. They seem like a decent idea.

Thanks for your input, advice, comments, etc...

hey, I think your wife will be fine with what she has, if shes a begginer shes not gooan be riding hard core wait a couple months untill she really gets the feel of the quad. If you really fell teh need to get her something i would suggest getting her under body skid plates

yeah... depending on where you ride... skid plates and bumpers are a great idea, since beginners like to hit stuff... (unintentionally of course.)

It's primarily what you can afford though... all that'll probably run you about $400 - $500. I'd start w/ the swing arm and underbelly skid plates... and then work your way up... (bumper... A-arms skids..)

I've looked around at several website and after-market parts for the LTZ250 aren't the most plentiful. Can anybody recommend a good online shop to get some of this stuff? Thanks...

I would say that is your aren't looking for performance than she fine stock. If anything in a few months when she gets use to riding invest in some bumpers and skid plates just so you don't hurt the body of the quad or crack the oil bolt off. Overall for now your good.

Welcome!! Haha, I fellow local rider! I love to see it! Hope I will see you out at either Glamis or Ocotillo! I think I am going to Ocotillo this weekend or definately Glamis for Halloween! There is not much that you have to buy for your bike. I would say essentials would be to make sure you have proper tools(metric). Escondido Cycle Center is a great local place to buy stuff for your quad, and they are open during the weekends. Its off the 78 exit Nordhal in San Marcos! Right next to North COunty Yamaha. I would also, make sure you have oil, tire pressure gauge, and maybe a tire repair kit. I went to Ocotillo my first time and came back with a nail in my tire, go figure. Don't forget your usual helmet and sticker(registration)! Very important!

What do you ride??

Hope to see you out there!

Oops forgot to add this. Some people may call Ocotillo= Rockotillo! THat means that there are a lot of rocks! Which would mean that skid plates **MIGHT** be a good choice. But I have not even bought skid plates yet or a bumper! Stock works good for me! (well somewhat)

Actually, my kids and I ride dirt-bikes, I have a 4 stroke Husqvarna.

We are going out to an area around Glamis the 4 days BEFORE Thanksgiving for the 1st time. I have been to Ocotillo in the past, I broke my shoulder in (4) places there in 2002 while riding a YZ250. I haven't been back since but plan on going once we can get some days off together as a family. Both our kids play on competitive soocer teams so our saturdays are shot until January. On top of that, snowboarding is my 1st priority so I have to get to Mammoth!!

I'm familiar w/ ECC. I bought my daughters Honda and my wife's quad there yesterday. They have a good selection of product and I usually go there to buy my "stuff".
