KQ Oil Filter?
#1
Have any of you done a comparison of different filters to determine who makes one for the new KQ other than Suzukis which tend to be high priced? What are your recommendations for a filter?

For what it's worth my recommendation is to use the filter and type of oil recommended by Suzuki until the warranty period has expired.
That way the dealer or Suzuki can't reject a warranty claim on that grounds.
Still waiting for my KQ to arrive.

A manufacturer cannot reject your warranty for not using OEM replacement parts unless they can prove that the part you used was the cause of the failure. The burden of proof is on them, not you.......and even if the part MIGHT have contributed to the failure, it is MUCH more expensive for them to prove it than it would be to just fix the problem.
I would be interested in a cross-reference oil filter for the new KQ 700 too.

If you have the suzuki part number try a cross reference on the Baldwin site
http://catalog.baldwinfilter.com/
To the best of my limited knowledge of suzuki's the KQ's engine is from one of the production motorcycles but I don't know which one. Baldwin does not list atv's in their catalog, but just about everything else.

The Suzuki part number for the oil filter is 16510-03G00. It doesn't cross reference in Baldwin. My dealer did not have the KQ microfiche so didn't know what oil filter to give me. After calling somewhere, she went to the shelf and got me a filter. That means it must fit some other existing machine. I don't know which one.
Rocky Mountain ATV lists a Twin-Air oil filter for the 05 KQ:

It doesn't save you much money but it's the first aftermarket thing I've found for the new KQ.
My owners manual said it took 2.6 qts of oil but to get the level to the top of the "full" area on the dipstick (not screwed in), I had to put all 3 qts in. Thats easier than measuring anyway.

You can use a K&N oil filter, it will be a KN-138, or the suzuki oil filter which is part no# 16510-03G00, for the 05 King Quad 700.
Adventurer,
My 05 King Quad also took 3 quarts when I changed the oil and filter, when I added the 2.6 quarts like it said in the owners manual it only brought the oil level to about the half mark on the oil dip stick, so I kept adding and it ended up being three quarts to get to the top of the oil mark on the dip stick.
