KING QUAD EVALUATION

I also have difficulty with folks wanting more low end power. How much of a wheelie do you need to do. I ride with lots of people and never once saw somone wheelie a log , rock or a stream. Everyone gets across on 400s and 500s just fine the same old way. If a machine like the KQ lifts the front end a bit, bonus for those that like to do that.
Also have not seen one person complain that the KQ could not pull that moose out of the bush as fast as the old grizzly or his BF! So in reality it has plenty of low end and does exactly what it was intended to do. I feel sorry for those that expected it to outdrag the big twins.
I think the designers listened to a lot of utility riders who like good handling, good power and adequate high end with enough clearance for most tough trail riding. Result was a pretty good machine.
I guess perfection is hard to find for some. I am more than pleased though.

I believe if you change the primary clutch spring to a stiffer one you will get a little stall (free spin or rpms) before your clutch engages and you will be compleatly satified with the low end tork. I have done this on 3 Polaris scramblers and it works great!!! Changing the primary spring is like putting a racing tork-converter in a drag racing car vs a stock converter. It lets you get the rpms higher before chutch engagement. There fore sending more power to the wheels by letting the engine get to its tork/power curve as the power is put to the wheels.
I have both Mine & my Sons hopped up Polaris Scrambler 400 4x4's for sale so We can buy 2 new King Quads.

Just a thought that might be of interest to you all. I have a 2004 Suzuki V Strom 1000 motor cycle and when it was new I noticed it would run a little rough (bucking) at approx 2500 rpm. After discussing this with my dealer it turns out that Suzuki leans out the low rpm range to meet emission standards and cannot by law change it. But once the bike was sold to me they quickly richened up the mixture by 5% and OH what a difference. Now it runs smooth all through the rev band and pulls hard. Incidentally this was done under warranty.
Now I'm not saying that is the problem with your bikes but it does have some similarities so might be worth discussing it with your dealer cos you never know.

All this talk about drag racing utility quads is making my head hurt. If you wanted to drag then why not get a sport quad? I live in Alaska and we have "CRAZY" trails! If I even see my spedo nears 30 MPH I'm pushing it for these rough trails. I belong to a club here where we have nearly have 15 riders per trip; all brands and size quads. We don't race or even think or talk about racing...we do however challenge eachother to an ocassional mud pit. This brings me to my second statement; how much power do you really need? I ride with many who have these big 700 hp beasts and I can honestly say most of the 300 hp machines can go just about everywhere they can. I think it comes down to the rider on most stuff.
Is the KQ really that slow off the start? I ride a Vinson and I can honestly say that I can keep up with the 700 HP machines for the most part. And for the "Gnarly" stuff I have NEVER been left behind by a big 700 quad!
I was at the dealer today because I need another quad. Should I get the Eiger for my wife and keep the Vinson for me or get the KQ for me and give the Vinson to my wife. I want the EFI and the IRS sounds like it's pretty good on the KQ but the price is a little off putting. I know it's the cheapest 700 out there but by the time I get Mudlites and a winch I'm looking at by $$$$.
Just my 2 cents.

Just rode a KQ today and I liked a few things.....
startup...EFI need I say more!
Steering.... as light as a 250 EX
handling.... can a 600 lb quad be nimble?
I also disliked a few things....
EFI....can't mod it!
IRS.... nail it and it squats, not to my liking
power.... when you are used to a modded P700 almost all pale in comparison.
My conclusion is for me this bike is not the best for me. I don't ride for days on end where plush IRS and altitude forgiving EFI are needed.
I blast from point A to point B (often on two wheels) while still being able to skid pretty substantial logs.
If Suzuki messed with the timing or the fuel mapping below a certain speed and it could be rectified then this may be a great ride.... until then it is well still a great machine! ( Just don't drag any of the big V-Twins)
