Locker for Vinny
#2
i got a detroit gearless locker for my vinson, from highlifter for 350$, it is a automatic locking differental. you can still put the bike in 2x4 or 4x4 by the button, there is no switch for the locker, when in 4x4 it is engaged, but the really really really nice part is the fact that it will allow some differental action during sharp turns on pavement, and there is absolutely no wheel hop AT ALL!
there is no downside at all trust me imho it was the single handed best upgrade i did, and look at my sig i did alot.
now you may think that a automatic locker isnt a locker, yes it is after you install it try a one wheel rock, or log test, before with your old diff the quad wouldnt drive up it in 4x4 or 3x4 may i say, the wheel you are trying to drive over the object would remain motionless, and the opposite wheel that is prolly spinning not helping all that much. when the gearless locker is now installed, go up to that same log/rock, and put that one tire up against it again, the other tire might lift from the ground but the tire that used to not spin with now claw over the object, trust me it works. it is the best way to explain it and when you see it for yourself i know you will be happy.

Can you explain a little more about the detroit gearless locker operation on a Vinson. I read a caution that it should not be installed if you ride at faster speeds, such as logging roads? You indicate that the 4wd button still works after installation. So the locker only activates when 4wd is selected? How does it affect the handling when engaged? Is there any pull or stiffness in the front turning?
The description indicates it allows for slip when turning. If you are turning on an obstacle or in a mud pit, does the 4wd engage or is does it allow slip? I would be concerned that the wheels must be going straight ahead for the locker to be truly engaged. Thanks for your help on this.

the locker only is active during 4 wheel drive. there is a slight more effort to steer the bike in 4x4 ON PAVEMENT, and is not noticable on hard pack, or mud.
the locker is engaged all the time and will only release, on hard pack turns just enough so the inside wheel will spin faster then the outside, that way there is no wheel hop. you do not have to be going straight for the full locked effect.
well as far as speed is concerned, with all the stuff i have i have gone 71mph with my vinny in 2wd, and about 65 in 4x4 just to see, and i dont see any problems with it at all.
