I don't understand why don't you try what they told you to do. Go up on the main jet big time.
Another thing to do, it get a high flow lid or just take it off, when I put my slip-on on, it ran like crap unlit I opened up the lid. I now run with a 155 main, and the dynojet needle at the 2nd or 3rd clip, I can't remember off the top of my head.
Im in ohio, and it runs nice and smooth now, with quite a bit more torque than stock.

Thank you for the info Motox26. I plan on removing the lid, main jet 155, and leaving the dynojet needle where it is. I am just trying to collect as much info as I can before I rip the thing apart again, not beat this in the ground and be a pain in the ars. Just knowing that someone has a similar setup that works has got my hopes up already. Hopefully it will help my low rpm problem in the process. Thanks again for everyones patience W/ me. I have jetted a couple quads and bikes, but the Z was a pain in my **** for some reason, mainly the lid being on was my big problem, reconranger told me about this and was a big help.
Another tip, I left the side panels, gas tank cover off and just thru the seat on to go test it until I got it right. Saves a lot of time when trying out different jets.

Since you've already broken the screws loose you can change the jet just by rolling the carb one way or the other without removing it or anything else on the quad. Just loosen the screws on the boots and twist it.....

Changed main jet to 155, removed air box lid, dynojet needle on 3rd groove, and the fuel screw out 4 turns. Seems to have cured the low rpm bogging, but the plug is still real white after high RPM runs. I tried putting the airbox lid on and running again, but it gets up to about half throttle and starts cutting out real bad. Checked the plug after this run and it actually had a little color to it (just slightly off white) but it ran like crap. Put lid back on and drill some holes? Bigger main? Fuel screw adjustments? Thanks for any info.

First thing you need to do is decide how you are going to run it, without the lid, holes in the lid, or what not, And leave it the same every time you do a air intake mod it is going to knock your jetting out in left field.
Im going to give you advice like you leaving your lid off like the last run you did. Im pretty sure all you have to do now is go up on the main jet a couple of sizes now. Just keep going up until it get to rich, and then back it down to the last one before it was to rich. That is the best way I have found to fine tune a quad as far as jetting goes in my experience. If you do this I guarantee it will come out right and you will be do go.
Now, once you get it jetted properly and if you decide to put a high flow lid on or drill holes in the lid and put it back on. It probably will get a bit rich and might not run smooth again do to lack of air for you bigger jet setting. So back it back down a few jet sizes.
I hope this helps you out, just try what I said and adventually it will get just right. Let us know what happens.

Ive just gone through some "Jetting Experimentation" I am running a HMF full system, K&N, no lid.
I ride from -27 sea level to +2750 above.
I started with the Dynojet kit (useless accept the needle)
with the DJ 155 it fell on its face on the top end.
So I kept going up to the largest jet I had in the kit DJ 165. It still fell on its face on the top end.
Ive since learned that Dynojet measures their jets differently than Mikuni (carb maker) I am now running a mikuni 172.5 which is equal to a DJ 182.5. It now runs great from 0-2750 elev. I hope this makes your experience easier than mine.

Oh yeah, and the fuel screw is just for your idle to no more than 1/4 throttle settings. So that is something you can play with sitting in your garage.
Also I put my lid back on to after I got it jetted right, and then it ran like crap until I took it off like yours did. so don't woory about that.

Just got back from my latest go-around with the puny mikuni 36mm stock turd, and I am pleased to say I fixed it. Went up to the DJ165 main, DJ needle on 3rd groove, and tried it with the lid on. It still seemed really zingy and lean, so I put the lid back on and removed the snorkel endcap. Rode it, and was quite impressed with the results. It pulled well through all the gears, much better low and mid, and topped out right around the time the rev limiter kicked in. What a difference it made. Did a plug chop, and saw that the plug was a nice pancake color- I think I better leave it alone now[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] (till spring at least). I appreciate all the feedback from all of you, as I would probably still be tearing my hair out.
