I had a 2005 Z250 for about a month and a half. Traded it in on my Z400 after that. The little Z is a great quad, I have no reservations about recommending them to anyone.

The only thing I want to point out is that if you are aggressive in riding style at all, spend the extra 1500.00 and get the 400. More suspension, more power, more fun.

If you are just looking for a machine to get you out on the trails, and don't care about going as fast as everyone on the big quads, then buy the 250.

Just my .02 cents worth

Give me a month and I'll give you an opinion. I just bought one today! The way I see it, the only other competition in it's class is the Honda 250ex. Class as being "sporty looking" 4-stroke, auto clutch, and shaft drive. I based my purchase of the z over the ex as the the z looking better and maybe having a little more potential in the motor if I ever do the common intake, jetting, exhaust mods. Plus, I am not a kid and the z seemed a tad bit larger or spread out and not as toy like as the ex. I would say the ex would probably have the advantage in reliability, but at the use level I will be riding it I don't expect any reliability issues anyway. I'll get her broke in and get a little dirt on the tires and report back. The people I have talked to that have them love em. But, like the other poster related, don't expect it to run, jump, and play like a 400 though.

I love my 2004 Z250. It is the same as the 2005, just a little bit of a different color scheme. It is an awesome trail quad. I've taken mine to West Virginia twice with my neighbor and a bunch of his friends who are all very experianced riders on 4x4's and I have no problem keeping up with them except for in the really deep mud or when we are going up and down the streams where it is really rocky and slippy. Being shaft drive the ground clearance is pretty good so you shouldnt have much of a problem getting hung up unless you get in a rut left by a 4x4. Overall, I don't think you can go wrong with it as a trail quad as long as you don't plan mud bogging or anything with it.

dude never mention that word in the suzuki forums (250ex) it just starts a huge argument. the Z is nice but its just not enough. its too slow and not powerful enough. i used to love it. if youre 12 or 13 or 14 then go for it but if youre older get a Z400

I bought one for our 11 year old daughter and it seems to be a great little quad. Just right for a person her size and it doesnt do too bad either pulling an adult around.

I think the mixed opinion about this quad has a lot to do with rider size and ability. A lot of riders say that they outgrow it too quick and that it is only good for younger riders. I'm 16 and have been riding for around 5 years. At one point in time I thought it was getting too slow and everything, but thats just because I didn't know how to push the real limits of the machine. Most people just push their limits on the machine, not actually pushing the machines limits. When I went to West Virginia it really showed me what the machine was truely capable of especially since I was trying to keep up with the bigger 4x4s. But then again, I'm only 125 pounds and about 5'8", so I didn't have to haul around much of a load.
