Default loudest exhuast for my z400?

Amen, Wistech!

Guys. it's NOT about the loudest, it's about the best performance, isn't it? Impress your buddies with roost, not noise.

Unless you are racing in a sanctioned event at an established track, or unless you have your own private large acreage in the middle of nowhere, having the loudest exhaust does nothing but attract the wrong kind of attention to our sport.

Pissing off the neighborhood when you decide to go for a night ride and wake everyone up with thumper thunder does no one any good....get enough complaints, and the government then gets involved by shutting down riding areas and increasing law enforcement funds to catch us "lawbreakers". I am a diehard ATV/offroad enthusiast, but even I like to enjoy the peacefulness of the outdoors on occasion, and someone constantly running around my house/campsite/location with little more than open pipe exhausts can certainly ruin that small pleasure.

I know a lot of you guys are like I used to be..."no one can tell me what I can run on my quad" etc., and I know the ATV industry is at an all-time boom, but as I have grown older I have seen the public's intolerance increase and the riding areas diminish.

Government regulation in Texas has now made it illegal to ride your ATV across rivers and streams larger than 30 feet wide, and this was due to off-road vehicles, including ATV riders, creating havoc with the environment both with noise and damage. The result is that a once AWESOME place to ride (Spring, just north of Houston) is now shut down permanently.

Ravings of an old foagie?...maybe, but remember that the wilderness is getting smaller every day....all to soon we will be wondering where the great places to ride have gone...if we don't take measures ourselves to control the negative impacts of our sport, we will have idiots in the legislature do it for us, and NOBODY will win!

As long as there are kids out there who dont know the difference between noise and performance.
Just run an open header, take the muffler canister completely off.

hey sweetquads thanks for stickin up for me cuz i do know the difference. Hey texasroadlawyer, you must have never been 16, if you didnt want something that sounds cool. Come on man! im sure you have owned a loud machine before. And it was your generation that closed the riding areas! not mine! I have only been riding for 6 or so years. Stop whining at people who want loud cuz it is usless. All your doing is making this chatroom a negative place and giving yourself carpel tunnel from typing so much. Relax your never gonna change a teenagers mind. You should probably be attacking the companies that sell the loud stuff not individuals like me who buy it lol

There is truth to the old Chinese proverb that "Before you can be old and wise, you must first be young and stupid" Yes, I was a teenager, I owned the hot rod cars with 'glass pipe exhausts, etc. I did plenty of stupid things in my youth that I now regret. But the great thing about being human is that we are capable of learning to change our ways...we CAN stop using ozone-depleting freon and still have cold air-conditioning...we CAN recycle oil and reduce pollution and the depletion of our natural resources...we CAN get high performance from an engine without excess noise and without upsetting our neighbors...it goes on ad nauseum.

As a lawyer, I know that we all have the constitutional right to be an a$$hole if we choose, as long as it doesn't interfere with someone else's right to be an a$$hole...so, I am respectful of your right to be a menace to society if you choose....just be respectful of my right to call the cops when your loud pipes and lack of consideration wake me up in the middle of the night, or otherwise interrupt my peace.

The point that I was making, maybe not so well, was that it is performance that counts, not just being loud. In my day, (obviously it is not the same today) if a car/truck/cycle was loud but not fast, it was regarded as an ear-busting piece of cr@p. However, if it was loud but ran like a scalded ape, then it was something cool because it had something to back up all the "hype" caused by being loud. As far as having a NICE sounding exhaust system goes, I agree...the Flowmasters on my Bronco sound sweet, and the increase in mileage is nice too. But they are far from being the loudest mufflers, and a heck of a lot quieter than open headers

You are lucky that you have your own place to ride (and reread my original message referring to having your own land..I quote:..."or unless you have your own private large acreage in the middle of nowhere,") I have my own property as well. Most quad owners don't have their own acreage, and you can check other parts of the forum, where lots of people are asking about places to ride.
The list of available riding areas gets shorter every year...it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize the numbers. Why do they get smaller every year? Well kids, it's because folks don't take others (mainly surrounding property owners) into consideration when they fire up their straight-pipe equipped roosting machines to go out and shred the environment. And there's no "it's your generation's fault" finger-pointing here...if you are riding an ATV on public land then you are responsible...especially in the eyes of the public...for what happens when ATVs ride on public land. It's simple...if we don't police ourselves, the government will do it for us

By the way, it's just an opinion, guys, not an attack...and you know what they say about opinions and everyone having one...If you can't keep an open mind, then open forums aren't for you

Loud=less places to ride. Please don't be one who helps ruin it for the rest of us.

I think the Alba pipe is the loudest. 102 or 103 DB. There pipes are wicked loud so ive heard. Mucky was right. If anything is louder they must make your head hurt. Alba pipes are made for dessert racing i believe. And they give out tons of gains.

Yea. I don't know anybody with an Alba pipe but I know they are very very loud. The Yoshi pipe is probally the best pipe but pretty pricey. My E series pipe is pretty loud and it sounds really good. And it doesn't get me into trouble.
