Suzuki Quadracer 250 for $300.. Good Deal?
#1
Well... This kid in my class has a (he says '86 but is that possible? i showed him a '90 and he said it looks just like that) Suzuki Quadracer 250. I know he isnt lieing either cuz i rode with him in a group of ppl one day.. and i remember the bike.. but that was a while ago.. anyway.. he said it runs but it smokes really thick and black. He doesnt know much about the problem but his dad said that it has something to do with the pistons and something rubber.. he thinks.. lol.. so that didnt help much. Before i go look at it is there any suggestions you have for what to look for.. and is this problem major? He only wants $300 which is a good deal no matter what.. but i am getting a license soon and need money for insurance and such.. so i cant waste TOO TOO much more money on quads. So is this a good deal and how much am i looking to have to put into it? Also.. These are kick start with reverse, correct? and 2 stroke or 4? thanks- Keith

They are a 2-stroke six-speed(87-92 anyway) withOUT reverse. $300 seems like a good deal. The problem is probably just bad piston/rings/head gasket. Get a new top-end and it's probably fixed. I don't know what rubber thing the dad speaks of though. While I'm thinking of it, look in the radiator. If it looks like chocolate milk, the head gasket is toast which would cause it to smoke. Also, to tell if it is an 86, look at the seat. 85-86 had a straight seat like almost every quad out there=== While the 87-92's have a T-Shaped seat that looks like (== <---that. They are similar to the Z400 seats.

Thanks- Would an 86 have Reverse? because i asked him this exact question: Does it have reverse? and he said, the quadrunner? yah. So idk.. and how much would the piston/rings/head gasket run me? Thanks- Keith

Well, then it is probably a 4 stroke quadsport/quadrunner 250. Since it's a thumper, they're a little more expensive as far as motor work. I don't know i I would buy one of those, even at that price. Get me some pics and I can tell you exactly what the quad is.

It probably is a quadrunner. By thumper do you mean 4 stroke? except for the fact that they are more expensive to work on is there anything else that makes you or anybody else tend to not like them? I just looked up the quadrunner 250 and it mentioned it is a rare bike.. which he also mentioned.. so it most likely is. Thanks- Keith

if its a quad runner its got reverse and is a four stroke as stated had my topend done on my quadrunner and it was 600 bux for all new valves seats gaskets and pistons and rings with the bore. if you have it done after break in dont forget take it back to have valves adjusted, and if it were a quad racer which it isnt if has reverse it only cost me 600 for total rebuild plus crank trued. good luck

i would buy it too for 300 bucks even with the engine smoking, if it's a quadrunner and if it's anything like the 86 230 i used to have i would definetly buy it, for utilitys they run pretty good. the top end kit would be easy to get, but you might have to get it bored depending on if there are any major scratches in the cylinder wall, i would definetly check into it because it's not everyday you get a deal on something.

yah im thinking about bringing it to my mechanic before buying it and letting him go over it.. see how much it would me to get it going in top shape. Is it true parts are hard to find for them sense they are rare bikes?

you can get normal parts such as the top end rebuild kit, but when i comes to aftermarket things like exhaust, yeah it can be hard to find. If you get it, order a dennis kirk catalog off www.denniskirk.com if you don't already have one they have lots of parts in there for almost anything, you can also try Rocky Mountain ATV, they are a little cheaper than dennis kirk, but they don't have nearly as many parts to choose from.
