New Pipe Today, Should I Rejet Now? (Winter) or Wait (Spring)?
#1
Hey all,
As i type this, i am waiting for fedex to drop of my new Team Suzuki Yoshimura Full System Pipe.
I called my dealer they told me they could rejet it today or tomarrow in 1.5 hours..
But i am wondering since its winter time and only about 20 degree's out, should i get it rejetted today? or should i be waiting till spring?
I really want to get it rejetted because i want to ride it, but at the same time if i spend $70 now, to rejet it and come warmer weather it doesn't run right and i have to pay for another rejet, i'm gonna be pissed.
The guy at the dealer told me it will just be a small air/fuel adjustment when the warmer weather comes, he said that is adjustable by a screw on the carb... Is this true?
Right now, the only thing i have changed from stock is the Air Filter, which i put on a billet flange and UNI filter, and it ran fine when the weather was warmer, but now that its cold, its very hard to start, and when it does start it back fires really bad.. I am assuming that is because of the little better flow of the air filter, and the really cold weather..
In the winter i will probably only ride it maybe 5 times, because it is soo cold... In the spring/fall/summer i will ride it all the time..
Thanks for your answers in advance..
P.S. I don't suppose there is anyone around the Central, IL area that has experience with rejetting?

do it yourself for 4 dollars a jet, it litteraly takes 2 mins to do.
and yes i would rejet because of the pipe, you dont want your motor running to lean.

2 mins???? Ah, no. It'll take you a bit longer but you can do it. Give it a try yourself first, you'll be surprised at how easy it really is...........

Vinson581 is absolutely correct....rejet now and keep from overheating/damaging your engine.
It's not a difficult process....if you are the slightest bit mechanically inclined, then get a manual or other info source and do it yourself...you will learn a lot doing it yourself
If you are a mechanical idiot, (like one of my best friends) then spend the $70 and get a professional to do it....better yet, shop around and see if a different shop will do it for less
good luck

i was kidding about the 2 minutes thing, but in all seriousness it shouldnt take you more then 20 minutes, looking at the manual and all.
just buy the jets from your dealer, they are about 4 bucks a jet, look at it this way, 70 bucks for a 4 dollar thing, and 50 bucks for a jet kit that you only need one thing out of. you are saving 66 bucks by doing it yourself! thats a large margin. my dealers shop rate is 65 a hour!!!! and 5 bucks for a jet theres how they got the priceing.

For the air/fuel adjustment, yes its true
It affects sightly the slow jet
And you should REALLY do it yourself !! I were in the same posture than you are and I choosed to try to change my jets (Big gun exhaust) by myself and It was so ezee..

I bought a Jet kit at my local dealer, its a Moose brand jet kit, but is made by Dynojet.
On the DynoJet jet kit it says it comes with: DJ112, DJ116, DJ120, DJ124, DJ128, DJ132, DJ136, DJ138, DJ140, DJ142, DJ144, DJ146, DJ150, DJ155, DJ160, DJ165
On the Moose/DynoJet kit it says it comes with: DJ108, DJ112, DJ116, DJ120, DJ124, DJ128, DJ132, DJ136, DJ138, DJ140, DJ142, DJ144, DJ146, DJ150, DJ155
From reading threads i have heard alot of people talk about using the higher jet's, like 150's 160's 165's..
But the Moose/DynoJet kit that i have does not even come with any 160+ jets... Is this going to be a problem? if so i will return it.
What i have is a '04 Z400 w/ EHS Racing Air box lid, Billet Filter Adapter & UNI 2-stage Foam Filter, Yoshimura RS3 Full System (The Team Suzuki version).
Any suggestions as to what size jet i would probably need?
Is it true that you need to rejet 2 times every year, every winter, and every summer (Or warm weather)?
Thanks,

ok heres the tricky part, that why i told you to get single jets !!!!
DYNOJET NUMBERS MEAN NOTHING IN RELATIONSHIP TO KEHNIN/MIKUNI JET NUMBERS. so if someone says a 170 main, in your dynojet that could equal up to a 145 dyno jet, they have no relationship.

So how do you really know what to use?
If you have to take the carb off and swap jets, untill you find the right one, that would take a lot of time, and how exactly do you know when you've found the 'right' one?
