Default '04 Z400 Dyno & Jetting Questions....

Hey all,

I have an '04 Z400 w/ Team Suzuki/Yoshimura RS-3 Full System Exhaust, EHS outerwares lid, NOSS Machine Billet flange & 2-stage UNI filter.

I just got the pipe today, and i am going to need to rejet.

I hear alot of people talk about dyno... I know what a dyno is, but where on earth do you take your ATV to be dyno's and how much does that cost?

I live in Decatur, IL there are about 4-6 ATV shops around here that i know of, and only 1 that is a LARGE atv dealer. So if anyone knows a place that has a dyno around my area, please share.

To my knowledge they don't have a dyno.

I am assuming a dyno is the only true way to find out if your jetting settings are spot on..

I bought a DynoJet kit, says its a Stage 1, but i guess its a stage1/stage2? Anyway, I have never jetted an ATV before... My dealer wants $70 to jet it, but i have been told it will need to be rejetted again when it warms up.... and basically 2 times every year, when it gets cold, and when it gets hot...

Is this true? If so i need to learn to do it my self.

The dynojet kit has a suggested jet to use, yet they include 20 other jets... I am sure its not too hard, but as i said i have never rejetted an ATV engine before, so i am confused and have alot of questions untill i actually do it and unstand it..

Thanks for the help..

-ThaChad

p.s. Does anyone with jetting experience live in or around IL?

It's not that hard to re-jet your carb, if you plan on putting a different needle in it's a little more difficult but not to bad, I cant tell you right off the bat what size jet you'll need it depends on what you have done with you airbox, right now on my Z I've got the airbox off and I put a needle and a 140 jet, and it runs really good, i've never had to change my jetting when the weather changed from warm to cold, my Z's runability never changed so thats why i didnt do it, it still ran just as good,If you try to rejet it yourself you can just turn the carb on its side and just rejet it that way, also there is an air/fuel screw also on the bottom off the carb to help you adjust how lean or rich you want it to run, I turned mine in all the way so no fuel could go in and turned it out counter-clockwise about 2 and a half to 3 turns, and that seems about right , but like I said it depends if you took your airbox lid off or whatever, try it and see if you can if not take it to the dealer or somewhere
