Which ever one you can get the best deal on. I would choose a Z over an EX but if you get a better deal on the Honda (I did) you won't regret it. I was surprised at how well they actually run against the Zs.

 

go sit on both and see what feels more comfortable to you before you decide

 

I own a 2002 EX, and have friends that have 03 white z and 04 Yellow/black Z. I hate the seat on the Z, I love the power, but it feels taller and narrower than the EX. I have had zero issues with the EX and neither guy I know that has the Z's has had any issues. The Z is a little faster stock for stock. I personally would get the Orange KFX 400 as it looks better than all the Z's in my opinion!

 

I have an 04 Z400 and wouldnt trade it for anything, reliable and starts up right away after sitting for a long time and in 0 degree minnesota weather.

whichever one you like better, the Z is a little faster, but look how many years of R&D it has over the EX, the EX came out in 99, Honda didn't improve it hardly any, and the Z just came out in 03 right???, the Z has 4 years on the EX, and honda is slow with updating things, i'm suprised they updated the EX for 05, i guess they were getting sick of being beat by the Suzuki's, personally i would still pick the Honda, my brother has an 04 and it's pretty awesome for a 4 stroke that is, and yeah i think the Z's sit to high, just like a raptor, but the EX's aren't far behind, me i like a low center of gravity and nothing is better than a 250R to me when it comes to that, this brings a question to my mind, why do they make them sit so high nowa days, more travel on the suspension doesn't make a difference unless you are racing.

yeah man that bothers me too, Honda trashed the looks of the 400ex's, just like the trashed the looks of the new Honda Civics, what's going wrong with Honda, they need to straighten up a bit.
