Order a pipe, jet kit, and pull the air box lid. If you don't mind sacrificing some top end speed, a gear change will make the bike quicker out of the hole.

You should be able to do all of that for around 500 if you shop around.

i have a stock 05 z400 and have looked around and priced some stuff. The product that i am interested in, once i get the money, is the alba pipe, jet kit, and filter package. It is 460 from albaaction.com and looks good. I have heard some people mention alba as being a great pipe, there is another thread where someone talks about the alba pipe they put on their 250, and it works amazing. Well again, just from the shopping around i have done that is what i think i am going to go with, maybe beginning of march. if you get something please put up a thread and let us know how it is.

The Alba pipe has got to be one of the loudest pipes made!! I'm not saying it's bad, just loud as hell!!!

I have a CT pipe on my Z400.

It came with jet kit, complete pipe(front to rear) and it was easy to install.

There was an article in one of the magazines and CT won the competition. It was like 95 decibles(sp), which is still loud, alot louder than factory....alot louder sounding anyways.

The cost was around $500.00.

I am very happy with it but it is loud. I have neighbors, I am sure they dont care but I dont ride in the mornings or evenings around the woods and trails that are around.

They have done tests and the right jetting and K/N filter and lid off gives you a very good performance inhancement. That is alot cheaper and quieter than a pipe.

Just my two cents.

Steve

Mod the stock pipe, get a K&N and jet it then put some Hotcams in it.

my roomate did the same thing to his ltz400, he opened up the stock pipe and sawed out an inside peice to give it more airflow, and put on a pro power pack, wiht the rejet. The bike def has much better response in the throttle. I am about to do the same thing, if i wanted to do the hotcams, which cam should i do, or both?? where is the best place to get them? and would i have to rejet after the new hotcams, or just after the K&N and exhaust being done?? Thank you for any info, just a rookie here.
