Diamond Plate King Quad Bumper
#11
Nyroc, Be my guest and post the pictures.
I have finished the posts tying the main part of the bumper to the winch mount. It Really looks much better now than in the pics from friday. I'll get some pictures in the morning. I still need to add something coming off the main bumper to visually tie it into the front rack. I'm actually thinking something in the shape of the upper piece of the original plastic "bumper", the part with the suzuki symbol.
I also need to add something to mount the Roller fairleed to. I will have it finished by the end of the week though.
Believe it on not I'm cutting the aluminum plate with a hand held jig saw. A good bosch blade lubricated with kerosene works great. A plasma cutter would be the way to go but I don't have one at home and thats where most of the cutting has taken place. If it turns out that I need to make a bunch of these I will probably cut with the plasma to save time.
The big question is " what's it worth" . I can't judge by my time right now. I have to have 20 hours into it and I still need another 5. Once I get the pattern all perfected it will be much easier. I would guess that I could do one start to finish in a week or so. Let's say 10 to 15 hours. Remember it's an "after hours" project and I don't spend my day in a weld shop.
The next thing is material. Right now I'm using left over material from another job. I need to check on the current price of 1/4" aluminum diamond plate. Right now I have enough plate to make 10 to 15 bumpers.
So the bottom line is What is someone willing to pay for a high quality, hand fitted, heavy duty, custom bumper with winch mount?
I'm thinking somewhere between $375 and $425 for the finished product.
Am I out of my mind? Jer

Looks great, but dumb question, what is holding it in place besides the diamond plate? Is there any structure behind the plate to withstand an impact? If it is just the diamond plate, then it is only form, not function, as it won't withstand any sort of mishap without deforming.
Jimdandy, there is nothing other than 1/4 inch aluminum diamond plate. I'm not sure of the alloy.
Your obviosly looking at the colums that tie the 2 pieces together. In the pictures they are not finished. I have added a 3rd piece to make them strucurally sound as well as appealing to the eye. I'll get pics for you in the daylight tomorrow. Other than that nothing real strucural is going to change.
It's tied into all 4 winch mounts and also the 2 front shroud mounts. I'm debating on whether I should also tie it into the front upper rack mounts as well, but theres very little structure there. It's double the thickness of the aluminum suzuki shroud which the bumper is designed around. Maybe a picture from the back would help you understand.
I'd hate to see the impact that dents this thing. Hope the rider lives. Jer

I've got some more pictures up. It might be done!!! I'm not sure if I will add the upper piece or not. I'll probably make it to see what it looks like but may not add it. Right now the bumper is less that 20 pounds and the king still wheelies!!!
Check it out and give me some feedback!!!
Almost finished bumper photos
