Default Ratcheting Straps coming loose

Last week I tried using ratcheting straps to hold my kq on the trailer. They came loose twice in one day.

Has anyone had any problems with ratcheting straps coming loose? How many wraps do you need on the mechanism to keep them from coming loose?

I've never had a problem with ratchet straps coming loose. As long as you have about 2 full wraps on it you should be fine. Might want to try getting some new ones. I've even used the tie downs that are springloaded and just pinch the strap and haven't had a problem with them either.

if your driving down the road and your atv moves on your trailer, back of your truck, the traps could come loose..

Same here, no problems. I have both. I would think you have them wound up to much and causing them not to catch. Try snugging them up first then ratchet them like mentioned above.

I have had problems with strapping to the grab bar on the back of my quads. When I would go down the road the straps wouls come un hooked sometimes because the rear suspension would bounce up and down from bumps. Now I tie off to the axle on the rear and to a low point on the front.

First, take up most of the slack. Try and get a couple of loops on the spool as you ratchet it right down tight. Last, tie off the loose ends. I tie the non ratchet part of the strap back on itself so it can't slip out easily, and wind can't get the extra strapping flopping around as you drive. It is good practice to stop and check the straps after driving a bit, say 10miles, and any time you take a rest/fuel stop as well. Sometimes straps stretch a bit, or some 'settling' may occur during transport. Also make sure the straps you are using have a WORKING rating that is over your quads fully ready to ride weight.

Tighten them down enough that they compress your suspension so they can't get unhooked on bumps.
