The problem with the Lone Star shortened swingarm is that it's $850 new. You can get a 91-92 stock aluminum swing arm for $100 or so used. If you know someone that can weld aluminum good, it wouldn't be too hard to modify the stock swingarm. Plus, it's aluminum so it will be lighter than the Lone Star.

Why wait untill you can scrape up 3 others to go in on a kit, when you cam just get a 273 from FST tomorrow? I'd look to get at least 4 others if you want to wait, because someone almost always backs out.

Also how will the engine hold up to the 12:1 compression. Will I need to upgrade the connecting rod or do something to the crank? Will the works shocks for the 250r fit on the 230s with +2" a-arms?

Bama, sorry I haven't responded yet. Actually, I'm not quite ready to get the kit. I was hoping maybe this summer... Let me know if you can't wait that long. As far as your head being thick enough, putting a larger bore sleeve in your cylinder shouldn't affect this at all. What will affect the head is having the higher compression piston. However, I've never heard of anyone complaining about the 273 kit. Your stock head should be fine. You will want a different cam in it though. If you meant to ask about your cylinder being too thin, the sleeve is really where the strength is. The aluminum cylinder is more for cooling. However, there will be more heat created from the larger displacement motor. One addition you might consider making is installing an external oil cooler. I've seen one added on a quad sport where they tapped into the oil through the oil filter housing. I think it was retro fitted off of a Honda 400EX.

Mbrooks, I've never heard of Four Stroke Techs 273 kit. I tried to look it up online but had no success. I would be interested in looking into it if it exists. Let me know anything you know about it. Thanks!

05LTZ400, your lower end should hold up to the big bore kit just fine. The shocks probably won't fit.

A big bore isn't the place to start, and wouldn't be worth it on an otherwise stock bike. Much better things to spend the $$$ on.

I can wait until summer, no problem. What aftermarket shocks will fit? Also with the 273 kit will 91 octane gas be okay? Do you think the oil cooler is hard to put on?
